      Re: How fast is fast?

There are a number of ways to fool an electronic timer. An electronic timer is essentially a photoelcetric gate. When the athlete places a thumb or finger on the timer the gate is ready, when they release the button the gate is opened, when they cross the beam at the end of the spring the gate is closed. The top 3 ways to fool a gate are..

1.) Placing fingers on the starter pad in a manner that allows the athlete to get a step placed before the button is released. (Place the middle finger down with the palm facing the direction of the finish line.)

2.) Learning to do a falling start, which with the listed above task will allow even more positive movement before the timer is released.

3.) Extending or leaning with arms extended across the finish line, which will break the beam before the athlete actually crosses it. ( The most popular methos being swinging the arm in an upward stridelike motion across the gate subsaquently in stride motion.)

All listed are ways of tricking an electronic timer. All will improve electronic speed.

In reply to the fact that this will stop athletes from inflating their scores on recruiting forms, or from high school coaches is not very realistic. The reason college coaches spend time eveluating boatloads of tape is because speed on tape is easy to see. How many high school prospects add 10+ lbs to recruiting forms, how many add 10+ ibs to their bench press? Almost all. Those of you that were fellow jackrabbits are no different, its human nature!!

      SSSSSSSSSPPPPPEEEEEEEEEDDDDIINNNGGG TO MY NEXT POST!!!!

      speed kills.
