I think I may be on the verge of a psychotic break. The state hospital is only about a 1/2 mile from my house. I hope they have a padded room available.[/quote]

Get it fixed Jacks the Great West wants all strong teams. >
Excellent points. As much as I want to laugh this off we can't do that. Things went very wrong tonight and that better be all this was. If this is our team than some big questions come up.

I can tell Stig knows he is in trouble bigtime. I think he knew that before the game and his worst fears were confirmed by half time. He discusses simplifying the game plan after halftime. What the hell is that? We don't need to simplify the plan. We should be able to do what we want. This is just flat out BS.

My phone is ringing off the hook and its not the hospital calling.

I would say this loss puts Stig under the microscope (coaches who preside over "worst losses in program history" generally are in some trouble). And consider this: We could conceivably start 0-8 this year. Central Arkansas is our only hope before William Penn, and UCA was a pretty good D2 team last year moving up to 1AA. If we have a two- or three-win season, the pressure for change will be intense

Honestly, Coyote_Fan, I can't even imagine a scenario where USD loses to an NAIA team, good year or bad. I thought, before tonight, that it would be unimaginable for us to lose to a DIII team or even a D2 team. La Crosse is a good DIII team, but give me a break. Last year I thought the football program made some strides. What could have gone wrong so quickly?

Another thought that I would rather I hadn't had: SDSU will have a new president beginning this upcoming spring semester.

Sometimes new presidents like to change things that aren't working very well.

Well it wasn't that long ago that we had a head coach that I for one am glad is long gone. He's a good linebacker coach but he's not a head coach. If this season does not go well for you it's better to get rid of him then struggle through another season, it sounds harsh but its the nature of the beast. What have you done for me lately kind of game and you can't rest on past wins. Especially after a game like tonight.

Any chance we can talk Tom Osborne back out of retirement? ;D Apparently, he'll have some free time after losing the Gubernatorial primary!

Do teams playing down actually gameplan? I mean when Nebraska was thumping all those schools did they actually have a game plan prepared or do they just run their most basic offense with no wrinkles and still pound the opponent. Kyle Steffes said after NDSU's game against Concordia St. Paul that NDSU didn't run any of their offense just basic plays. What happens if you go into a game figuring you will run basic plays because of a talent advantage and it goes bad? If you don't have a game plan you can't switch back to it. I know the Coach's biggest challenge a coach has when playing down is to get the players up for the game with respect for the opponent. They have to spend the whole week of preparation pointing out reasons the other team could beat you and sell it to the players to get them prepared.

I thought SDSU's program had improved greatly since division II because they were competitive in all the games last season, even the heavyweights, but this makes me wonder.

Is Montana next week or do they have a week off? What did Stig say postgame?

Just a lot of questions, thats all I can say. I'm not sure there are answers right now. We need to stand behind the boys and let them know we expect a lot more that what we got tonight. Not looking forward to the Montana game with nearly the excitement I was last week when I found out it would be televised.

This had to be a fluke. No way we lost that much ground over the summer. It had to be a preparation issue followed by a big darn choke job. Unfortunately, we don't really seem to have a team leader on either side of the ball and when things are going bad there doesn't seem to be anyone for the younger guys to look to. I don't know if someone will step forward or not. Watson doesn't have it, Koening seems like he might. I think Berry could do it but the coaches are stuck on Kardoes. As for the D, can Marty be the guy? Maybe Gentile or Hoogevene (sp?). The players really need to come together this week and play angry against Montana.

I was told by a member of the chain gang, that teammates were wanting Kardoes pulled before the 1st quarter was over. He finally was pulled in the 3rd quarter. Stig said in the postgame that this was his lowest moment since being at SDSU. Hopefully it was just 1 bad night and we'll regroup and play better the remainder of the season. If not, it could be a long fall.

Tony Staus almost singlehandedly lost the Northern Colorado game two seasons ago with 5 interceptions. Hopefully that is what it was with SDSU a bad game by the QB.

I heard from players last spring who couldn't figure out the coaching staff's fixation with Kardoes.

I am not here to find sympathy or condolences, but about an hour and a half after the game, and after reading this message board , I get an email from Texas telling me  of a death in the family.  It to was something I had hoped would not happen, but it did happen. This embarrassing game seems kind of trival right now.

I think we had some very inexperience players starting or they were neebies. That along with the muddest field I have ever seen, slowed down our game plan a great deal.

I can go to another game, but I can not sit down visit with my nephew. He is gone from the living.

There are more important things in life than an embarrasing loss to a D3 football team, that came to Brookings to win. I just had to get this off my chest. Thanks for reading.
