Hope the field does not cause any injuries, starters may be pulled earlier than expected, so score may not be as big as it could be. Not worth the risk. I will still be there in the backyard...anybody, stop over
I know we'll win. It'll be a blowout. Here's what I'm looking for:
1. I've heard again and again just how amazing Andy Kardoes is, yet I have yet to see it on the field. I realize he was hurt a lot last year, but I'll be looking to see if he can throw an accurate pass and make good decisions. He made many, many bad decisions last year that have nothing to do with raw athletic ability. And he missed a lot of receivers (and I recognize that could be due to his ankle injury.) All of the QBs should get a lot of playing time. I'll be thrilled if they all play well, but if Kardoes struggles (again) I hope Stig has him on a short leash.
2. Speed. I'm told we're a much faster team this year. I'm anxious to see that (although the rain might slow everybody down.)
3. Defense. Lots of very talented young guys on that side of the ball (along with some terrific upperclassmen.) It will be interesting to get a look at some of the new guys (Isaiah Jackson, Jimmy Rogers, Joseph Blackman, etc.)
What else should I be watching? Who has some insight to share?
I'll be paying attention to the defense mostly. Last year LaCrosse threw almost at will against us and they aren't supposed to be as good this year. It will be a nice test for our defense especially with 4 new starters in the defensive backfield.
Heading home after clinic to help my wife load up the van and head north. I'll be staying behing to take call tomorrow. I'll let my family represent me at CAS. I'd feel sorry for myself but things are just too good for me to let one scheduling conflict get me down. I can't get over my excitement about joining a DI conference.
Looking forward to listening to the game while wearing my Jacks jersey and hope Mother Nature cooperates enough to make for an enjoyable time in the Backyard and the stands.

See, I knew we agreed on things. Those 3 things (although D and Kardoes would be 1-2 for me) are the things I think we need to see the most improvement on to really make the leap this year. I'd also throw in that I am anxious to see how our O-line looks. It's almost taken for granted that we will run like we did last year when alot of our O-line is new. Things to look for: 1) size of holes we open against a weak d-line and 2) aggresiveness down field by the O-line willing to make the extra block. Since I'll be listening via internet, I'll be relying on those in attendance for a report.

It's just about time to pack up and head down to Brookings for the game. The Weather Channel says I'll need my rain suit. I hope the crowd isn't hurt too much by the weather. Everybody just needs to break-out the foul weather gear and head over to Coughlin. It'll be a nice night. ;D Not too hot and won't need the shades. 8-)
I want to check out the SD State Fair tomorrow. I haven't been there for a few years. Probably will miss it again this year if I still need the rain suit on Sunday.

I'm just so damn excited I can hardly stand it!! I'll be listening via WNAX and posting my thoughts from time-to-time. Looking forward to hearing about the O-line and the defense in general. Thats where the biggest questions exist for now. I am also in the camp that is waiting for Kardoes to show his stuff. I'll have a short fuse in calling for Berry as what I have seen of him impressed me.
I have my SDSU flag flying, my SDSU jersey poised for wear, and my radios all tuned to WNAX. Can't wait for kickoff.
