Have you heard any reports on Bonwell or Batten on the d-line?

Bonwell still has some catching up to do, JUCO ball and D1 ball are alot different. He will do a good job. Batten is the real deal, very quick, he will develop into a very good DE. Better than Goff at this time last year.

        1.  No Anthony Watson listed at all

        2.  Jaron Harris listed as #1 before Dusty Snyders
I would take a Jaron Harris anyday over a Dusty Snyders.  Nothing against Dusty but Jaron has the speed and quickness, Randy Moss like abilities? when he is on and always a threat for a big play.

And Wats has had some issues the past few years to open the season so that really isnt much of a surprise there.  Looking forward to the fun of this weekend's events.[/quote]

I think most of us are aware that Watson has had issues in the past which make this year's issues even more troubling. I have no idea what this year's problems stem from or what's happening to him, but I do know that each player, especially arguably our most talented running back, has a responsibility to his teamates and coaches to be on the field helping the team. It's disappointing that Watson seems to shirk those responsibilities. So in that sense, it is a surprise to me.

          3.  Jason Bonwell (JC Transfer) and Danny Batten (true Frosh) listed as starting DE. (BTW, I have heard Batten will make Hank Goff look like he was a true Frosh last year, he is that good)

          4.  If our defense can come together, it will be good for a long time.  There are a lot of very young 1st and 2nd string players on that side of the ball.   I only counted 4 seniors in the whole two deep.
I visited with Coach Stig at the volleyball tourney last week and he said a true freshman would be starting. He said he rather have Hank Goff, but apparently his attitude toward scholastics did not mature. Stig actually said something else but would rather not post it here.

I noticed last friday night at practice No 77 the young man from Lindsay Nebraska was on crutches. Anyone know of what his situation is and when he will be ready to go this year or is he out for the season? This guy came from an eight man program but was suppose to be a good lineman with size.

I too like Harris, but with a deep corp of receivers, injuries and differt types of defenses could find different recievers playing at different times. Dusty has the most experience and that I think is worth something.

I  recall the first game Watson played, he appeared to be another Josh Ranek and I dont know what has happened with him. He seems to be kind of streaky with his running game. I would agree he needs to put the team first. Josh Ranek always did. Josh was always last coming out of the Coughlin Dressing room at home games.

Another example of how appearances can be deceptive. I don't think we will ever really see another Josh Ranek. If anyone is close I would give it to Koenig. All that said, Watson is one talented runner and is impressive but only when he wants to be. Reminds me a little bit of Michael Bennett as far as attitude goes. The big question for Stig is whether the attitude problem can be overlooked for the potential. No doubt teams focus their attention on Watson when he is in the game. I for one think we need him to balance out the running portion of our attack. Koenig and Hoen are similar runners and Watson gives a little different look. Add Kardoes' ability to get outside and that is a nice running game. Time will tell.

Number 72 is Jacob Ludemann. He had a serious car accident the summer before he came in as a frosh. He had some more surgeries on it this year and is supposed to be ready to go next summer. It is my understanding that he will still have 4 years of eligibility left starting next fall.

If JaRon takes football seriously (bluehat you know what I mean) he has the size, speed and ability to play at the next level in some form. It had to happen sooner or later that the younger guys took the place of some of the older players. Remember, the Juniors and Seniors were recruited as DII athletes, the rest were DI recruits. They have to start passing up the older guys sooner or later.

If it is an attitude problem, it will not be overlooked as it was not last year nor will it be this year. Watson will not play if  attitude is a problem. I dont have any inside information. You would think Anthony would pull out all the stops as he does have competiton from Koenig and others. Paula comes to mind I dont know how he is doing, but is on the roster. I expect great things out of him as if he gets a few clean blocks he is like a deer going across a cornfield.

According to their Web site, they're open 12:30 to 4:30 on Saturday. But don't forget that you can buy SDSU gear at the game, too.

Not to be a pessimist, but the rain we've been getting today in Brookings will make the field a mess and slow things down quite a bit.
