  • One game does not a season break or make

True fans stand behind their team, players and coaches, win or lose. They understand that occasionally for what ever reason(s) the team is unable to perform to their ultimate capacity. This is very disappointing to the fans when it happens. It is even more disappointing to the coachs and the players who have work very hard to get where they are.

No one can change what happened last Saturday. Only the players and coaches can change what will  happen in the future. I trust they will continue to do everything they can to improve. That is good enough for me!

I am disappointed with the lack of support for them by some on this board (which I am sure many of the players read). Questioning their ability, heart or commitment does not help them to prepare for the rest of the season.

One game does not a season break. We have a lot of very talented athletes and a great coaching staff. They will give it everything they have and to that I say.....

I say GO JACKS! Beat Montana! I'm behind you, All the way.

Here's my two cents on the thing...

I'm not going to sugarcoat our loss, especially when it came against a so-called "cupcake". And I'm a huge fan of SDSU Football, but I'm not going to hug these players, wipe their noses, and make coo-coo noises to make them feel better.

With that in mind, if they (player and coaches) see these postings, maybe that'll be enough to light a fire underneath their butts. I know if I had someone questioning my focus and what have you, I'd take it as a point of personal pride. And I'd come back the next week and re-double my efforts, if anything to shut these yahoos (i.e. US) up!

But as the great football commentator Dennis Miller is so fond of saying, "That's just my opinion; I could be wrong!"
    I am Ed. Fear me.

      Actually, I should modify that...

I wouldn't re-double my efforts to shut the posters up, I'd do it because I want to prove to myself that last week's loss was a fluke and that there's no way on God's Green Earth I'm going to come out flat-footed like that.

There will be days when the sun shines and also no sun such as the game Saturday Night. Winning is something to celebrate and I am as happy as anyone when that happens. When we have a loss like Saturday, its kind of tough to swallow. Our guys need our support so I am in agreement with JBQJBN comments and Jack1 too. I believe our adminstration has our athletic programs under control. Our AD will have more time now that we found the Mid Con and each and every program will be scrutinized and if changes are necessary, they will happen. I think we can be proud of our GPA's and graduation rates for student athletes. To me these stats are as important as wins and losses. We prepare competitors for life who often have very successful careers in the job market. To me these things make the loss to UW-Lacrosse look very small.

Thanks for weighing in on the matter. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that felt that way. Glad to see I'm not alone. Keep up the good work. Go Jacks!

I'm with you JBNJBQ and I also agree with jackrabbit1. Let's not sugar coat it, last Saturday was probably the most emberassing defeat in school history. That's over, we need to move on!

All that loss did was give the haters and naysayers some fodder for the short term. Most of us see the larger picture! Even with the loss last week, it was one of the best weeks in the history of SDSU!

Now is when we find out the character of our kids and my guess is that they turn it around and make us proud!

I'll be cheering for them no matter what. Go send the Grizzlies into hibernation!

As always, GO BIG, GO BLUE, GO JACKS!!!

The naysayers are in a box. If this one loss is all they have then I would not worry about them. As I tried to say in another thread, we know where SDSU is going short term and long term. Whether our coaches prepared enough for UW-L, I dont know and it appears they may not have. I felt uneasy when LaCrosse came to town last year so this year seemed very certain. Those close to LaCrosse area know this program and it appears you always need your A game to beat these guys. We had maybe a D minus plan, one that failed miserably. Its over lets get the Griz.

I'm not sure who you refer to when you say naysayers and I'm not sure you understand what you mean by that term. A loss to UW-L can't be ignored anymore than a win against Southern U., NDSU, or Montana can be. To talk about the direction of SDSU athletics and our institution in the context of last weeks loss makes little sense to me. Seems like rationalization and not reality.

I expect a much better showing this weekend and there better be. To act like last week never happened is of no benefit to anyone. To dwell on it is just as detrimental. To use it as a motivator is useful. Last week happened and there are those who are accountable. This week is another challenge and I hope we are up to it. If not someone will be accountable. That is just the way it works.

True support isn't just about the rah, rah, rah aspect. At least that is the way I see it. My support for SDSU as a whole won't waiver based on one loss, one coaching change, one whatever.

Lets go get the Griz and make all of the Jackrabbit nation proud. I for one like roller coaster rides.

I'm not sure why some people feel this way.  As a former high school athlete, current partner is a group and an occasional teammate now I want to be held responsible for mistakes, miscalculations, and any lack of effort perceived or real.  I'll accept that challenge and try to improve myself and my "team".  That has always been a philosophy for me.  Strive to be your best and when you do something preventing you from being your best correct it.  The first step to correcting it, is of course, recognizing it.

How does ciriticism get perceived as lack of support?  It like saying giving a kid a C for an average paper discourages them from improving.  It is what it is.  Why is calling it what it is wrong?  Lack of support, to suggest that is just BS and I would even say offending.  Most of those being critical are the ones who established this website and forum as a form of support for SDSU athletics during the move to DI.  In addition they have or are laying the groundwork for further fundraising and projects to support current and future students, athletes, coaches and all associated with SDSU.  Lack of support, I don't think so.

                        Jackmd,

I thought I would at least get a reply back on the picture above!

I agree with you in that support is not just rah, rah, go team! It also goes way beyond wins and losses for me! It has to do with the kids and the experience that they have and I believe we are giving them a great experience and it is only getting better!

Some people base their support on wins and losses and that is a natural reaction. True supporters believe in the overall vision.

I'm not trying to call anybody out or anything of the sort, it's just when a deal happens like last weekend, suddenly you start to hear people saying the move was a mistake and THEY are basing it on one loss!

Going D-I is going to be the best thing that has ever happened to SDSU and it will prove out in the very near future!

I hope that clears up my thoughts a bit!

I haven't heard anyone say the move was a mistake because of the loss the UWL? Other than maybe the Mav twins, who don't really count.

From Superbunny post and others, I define naysayers as those who have opposed the move to D1 or more recently those who are jeolous of the recent developments at SDSU. ie Mid Con Membership.

It certainly is not directed to the pulmanary specialist who frequents this board and uses the handle JackMd. One naysayer very close to your medical practice is the Honorable Senator Frank Klocheck. The other is Clarence Koistra, and then there is the red hoard 26 miles east of you. These folks are silent now days and maybe having fun with the WUL game, but that works for only so long. This is the jest of my post regarding naysayers. It not about threads and reactions to last week's game. You and others are indeed entitled to your opinions. I have no problems with them except for some redundancy.

One thing I have noticed for the past three years is that Dr. Oien has been extremely busy finding a conference. Now that this part is done, I suspect he will be spending more time looking at each and every program and making adjustments accordingly. It could involve changes in head coaches if he feels that and recommends that to the new president.  Maybe that is why I can not get all frothed up about last Saturday. Yes it was hard to swallow, said that before, but its over . We can't change it now.

As far as accountability, every coach is accountable, even our BB coach. I suppose we could tar and feather Luke Meadows for not making a better game plan and maybe throw the others in the tar too. I dont think it's necessary. I am sure the assistants do feel accountable for last week. Considering their pay, they probably can not afford malpractice insurance, but maybe they need it. ;D Its not that big of a deal. I lost a 44 yr old nephew in Texas last Saturday night, acute alcoholism, Maybe that has kind of taken me off the fan pity pot, as his death has been on my mind a great deal.

Until then well we march onward and upward.

I too want to take down the  Griz down.

I know you don't like my analogies, but let's try this one:

Your wife cooks you a meal that she spent two days planning and all day preparing. At meal time, it is obvious that something went wrong. You have two options.

                              1. Say honey thanks for all your hard work preparing this meal. I appreciate and love you very much.

                              or

                              2. Honey this is the worst meal I have ever eaten. What went wrong? I think we should consider getting a full time cook because I don't think you can handle the job. Oh and here's a $100 for you.

                              Poll:
What do you think she will do with the $100?
