I think Andy has finally become the leader everyone was looking for him to be. This offense is his. He just needs to have fun with it.
You are absolutely right! It is easy to see why the coaches like an athletic kid with a heart as big as the state of South Dakota! A broken jaw suspected. Taken to the hospital comes back goes into the game and rallys the team to win against one of the hardest hitting teams SDSU has ever played. HE IS THE MAN.
Well I must say after a bad start to the day with 2 volleyball losses this comeback of the ages is a good way to end the day. Congrats Guys, you struggled but you had the heart to win it. 3-3 is possible after next weekend if the same heart and soul shows up for 60 minutes of hell.
This is the exact reason I am living where I am living.
I don't know where you guys are that have been on the CP all night, but there is nothing better to me than beer, BBQ, and Bits.
I have been listening all night out in the garage and I have no chance of going to bed with the wife tonight. With 14 ticks left I called the folks in Pierre, woke then up and asked if they had been listening and asked if they were coming next week 'cause Jacks win baby!!!!!
I don't have the details, but my jaw dropped after Kardoes came in with a broken jaw and marched us within range. The radio guys said he could have run and I say do it. We boast his athletic ability so let him us it and get us there.
Something tells me that there will be just a little bit more incentive than usual for our boys to go out and play a real good game against Central Arkansas next week.
Thinking back to an earlier post about putting CAS in Louisiana...how about some of the guys carefully scrapping some Louisiana soil out of their cleats and bringing it back to sprinkle on CAS. The great state of LA has been good to the Jacks.
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) -- South Dakota State place kicker Parker Douglass booted four field goals, including the game winner with 14 seconds left, to lift the Jackrabbits to a 20-17 upset victory over No. 16 McNeese State in a Division I-AA contest Saturday night.
Douglass' game winner was a 46-yarder and he also had field goals of 40, 41 and 32 yards during the game.
McNeese (1-3) led the game 17-6 at the half but the Cowboy offense was shut down in the second half by the Jackrabbits, which improved to 2-3. Penalties also hurt the Cowboys as they were tagged for 19 and 174 yards.
South Dakota State had 344 yards total offense to the Cowboys' 240.
Douglass kicked a 40-yard field goal for South Dakota midway in the first quarter to open the scoring and the Cowboys came back with a 42-yard field goal by Blake Bercegeay and a five-yard run by Jamie Leonard to take the lead.
In the second half, it was all South Dakota State as the Jackrabbits got the two field goals from Douglass and a 40-yard touchdown pass from Andy Kardoes to JaRon Harris.
Kardoes was his team's leading rusher and passer as he ran for 74 yards and completed 9-of-20 passes for 125 yards.
McNeese State quarterback Derrick Fourroux had 45 rushing yards and completed 9-of-17 passes for 111 yards.
South Dakota State scored all 14 of its second half points in the fourth quarter.

Also, I heard before the game that watson was within 241 yards of number two all-time rushing and that is just reeeediculous. He showed up when Josh was a senior and told Josh that he was recruited to be the starting tailback. Needless to say Josh told him to sit and watch for a year. As an earlier post alluded to he is really fun to watch, but I wonder about him and his attitude sometimes.
I want to thank everyone for posting as the game was progressing. I had to take my wife out to dinner and a movie. It was great to read the posts as the game was progressing. Way to go Jacks and good luck next week.

Huge win. We're back. Let's beat UCA next week.
Well we didn't quite make page 8 but we made page 5 and had a bigger Headline and write up than USD. Front page was Augie's Loss and Some Special about some USD kid and Florida or something. and one other story.
Gotta throw my Congrats! in there. The missus and my girls are at Grandma's in Kentucky this weekend, so I was able to listen to the game over the stereo and flip between Ohio St and the Goph's game on TV. It was a perfect afternoon/evening topped off by the Jacks win. Felt like deja vu all over again as I was in the same situation when we beat Southern.
Addressing something that came up earlier in the season, we are now 2-2 against QUALITY D1AA opponents. That equals the totals in wins for the last 2 seasons. If we end up 5-6 or even 6-5, we'll have earned it this year. Take out the UWL game (which is looking more and more like a wakeup game) and we're doing at least as well as I thought we would by this part of the season. Unlike after the first 2 weeks, I really like where this team is headed. From Coach Stig's quotes, it looks like he decided after about week 2 that he was just going to put all his faith in his players and coaching staff. He talks like a coach who is totally invested in his team. I'm glad that they're responding for him.
It seems like they've finally figured out how to best use Kardoes. He's really responded in the last 3 weeks. Even better, our defense seemed to take the first 3 games personally and have responded. I've played for defenses where that didn't always happen. CONGRATS JACKS!!! I wish I was able to make it back for the Beef Bowl. This will be a quote that will follow for the rest of the season, but "this next game can make the season." Let's put our name back in the hat for consideration of upper level 1AA football teams.
P.S. - what happened to Coyote_Fan? I thought USD could move to 1AA and instantly be in the top tier of the league. Guess that was a little premature. (sorry for the smack on this thread. Couldn't resist - SDSU win and USD loss = perfect Saturday!)

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out once again how supremely pathetic the new Argus-Leader web site is. Everything you shouldn't do in a web site is wrapped up into one nice neat little package over there at argusleader.com. Combine that with the utterly inept online reporting of the state's largest (and only Division I) university and you have a perfect storm of incompetence from the state's largest newspaper.
(As a side note, I'm sick and tired of the "too late for publishing time" excuse that the Argus has been using for thirty years or more to avoid timely reporting SDSU athletic events. Hey, Argus, it's not the event that's the problem, it's your deadline that's the problem. Instead of flubbing (euphemism) up your web site, maybe you should look at your production processes to figure out how to routinely get adequate reporting of events ending before 11 pm into your newspaper. You guys are supposedly in the news business . . . news starts with NEW. Two-days-after reporting of sporting events is, again, pathetic.)
The Argus' new web site is one of the worst I've seen. You can not find anything anymore. I just checked again and am unable to find the SDSU story on line. At least I know that it is in the paper from this board, but if you can get it in the paper, why not on-line? Two versions of the same column about seeding for 11AA playoffs, but nothing about a huge Jacks win over a nationally ranked opponent. Sad.
You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can never teach a stupid dog anything.
In all fairness to the Argus Leader, maybe they keep this story off of the internet site because they know that it is the one sports story that people might go out and buy the paper for.
