Whoa, that Davis/Poly score is interesting!

Look at how well our opponents are doing today.

Love listening to Coach Stig after the game. Character.

Great win for the Jacks. Parker douglas hits two field goals to seal the deal, one a 48 yarder. Sure am glad the huskers didnt offer him a scholarship. UCA is a tough team and the defense played great tonight. Week off to get ready for poly. Cant wait.

Re: Central Arkansas - Beef Bowl

I just got back from the game and we played well against a good team. We still need to cut back on the mental errors as Kardoes threw two picks and we had a couple of bad 15-yard penalties that should have been avoided. We stopped the UCA running attack and got several sacks, resulting in the negative rushing yards for the Bears. They were still able to move the ball frequently against us, but they frequently shot themselves in the foot with an untimely penalty. I'm guessing that we'll have a tough game on our hands next season when we play down there.

shoot, with how young our D is, they'll be afraid of us coming down there.

What a great win for the Rabbits.

I am just back from the game and I will add one thing. I thought that Cent Ark took swagger to another level. They were cheering during their stretching and chanting and dancing - talking about eating rabbit and really taking disrespect to a new level. It was great to have the Jacks hand them some serious crow to eat.

I will also add that the interference call against Koch in the endzone was a joke. He made a great dive around the receiver to make a nice play.

The defense came out and played hard tonight. The d-line was awesome. Batten is a man. We have had a great string of Freshman dlinemen in the last three years. Pontrelli, Goff and now Batten have all started and done well as true freshman.

Great Win!! It looked like we really punished them on the line on both sides of the ball, and there was a few times, when they did catch the ball we smacked them pretty hard and they didn't get up right away. I think our pass defense leaves a little to be desired though. Kardoes had a couple picks but he evened them out with some big plays. I think the score was alot closer than it should have been, some missed chances. A win is a WIN. 3-3 heading into the bye. Hopefully we can finally get one from Cal Poly!

                        SDSU SHUTS DOWN BEARS 20-7
                        FOOTBALL • Oct 7, 2006

Sophomore quarterback Nathan Brown threw for 290 yards with a touchdown in UCA's 20-7 loss at South Dakota State.

BROOKINGS, SD _  South Dakota State's defense completely shut down the University of Central Arkansas running game Saturday night and took a 20-7 victory over the Bears before a crowd of 12,332 at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium.

The Jackrabbits (3-3), who started the season 0-3, have now beaten three consecutive Southland Conference teams, adding this victory to road wins over Nicholls State and McNeese State.

A week after rushing for just 85 yards in a win over South Dakota, the Bears (4-2) continued to search for a running attack. UCA finished with minus 16 rushing yards as quarterback Nathan Brown was sacked five times for minus 46 yards.

Brown, in his second start since returning from a hand injury, completed 26 of 38 passes for 290 yards, including a string of 13 straight completions in the second half. Still, the Bears could not sustain any offense in either half despite driving deep into SDSU territory several times in the final 30 minutes.

After falling behind 14-0 late in the third quarter, Brown drove the Bears down to the SDSU 27 and then faced fourth and 23. Two wild plays followed, with Brown hitting a leaping Fairooz in heavy coverage for an apparent touchdown, but it was brought back by a false start penalty.

On the next play, Brown went back to Fairooz in the end zone but pass interference was called on SDSU, giving UCA an automatic first down at the 17. However, on the next play, Brown made an ill-advised pitch to Brent Grimes on an option and Tyler Koch, the player called for the interference, recovered the fumble to end the drive.

UCA dodged that bullet when senior safety Jasper Johnson intercepted Andy Kardoes' pass at the UCA 27. The Bears went nowhere and were forced to go for it on fourth and 4 at the SDSU 33 but threw incomplete. The Jackrabbits made them pay with a 48-yard Parker Douglass field goal for a 17-0 lead with 6:13 remaining.

The Bears avoided the shutout with a 4-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a 40-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Fairooz. James Paul's point-after made it 17-7 with 5:19 to play. South Dakota closed the scoring with another field goal by Douglass, a 28-yarder with 38.8 seconds left.

Fairooz, a senior All-American, caught seven passes for 90 yards, while freshman David Robinson added five receptions for 60 yards. Johnson finished with a career-high 16 tackles and an interception, while senior Leroy Hamilton added 11 tackles.

Kardoes completed his first seven passes of the game and led the Jackrabbits on an 8-play, 56-yard drive for the only score of the first half in the opening minute of the second quarter. The possession followed a UCA interception at the SDSU 44.

The Bears threatened on their next possession, driving down to the Jackrabbits' 35 in 11 plays before Brown's pass over the middle to Fairooz at the 10 was incomplete, broken up by Marty Kranz on fourth down.

SDSU came right back and drove deep into UCA territory but middle linebacker Quentin Maxfield intercepted an ill-advised Kardoes pass in the end zone to snuff that drive.

Brown was 8 of 12 for 81 yards in the first half while the Bears had a net of just one rushing yards. Kardoes finished  the half 10 of 15 for 72 yards and the Jackrabbits tallied 153 total yards in the opening half.

UCA continues its three-game road trip next Saturday, traveling to powerhouse UC Davis. Kickoff is 3 p.m.

Re: Central Arkansas - Beef Bowl

Count me among the 12 thousand change in attendence to the beef bowl. I dont think that since 1986, have we had a defensive line that can blizt like our current lineman do. I started watching the Jacks on a regular basis in 1986 and our D has often sat back and let the opponent  QB  have all day.

Granted Andy had some bad picks but over all he played a whale of a game. Since Central Arkansas was keying heavy on our receivers and even on Anthony Watson, it allow Andy to run the ball and he did that in a couragous manner.  Hopefully Andy will run the ball more often as there are lanes that open up when the receivers and tail back are being covered for a pass. Every first down takes time off the clock and makes the oppenent nervous especailly if they dont have the lead on the score board.

Central Arkansas was a very good team and base on the UCA-USD score and tonights score, I dont think SDSU is 37 points better than USD, but I do think we would not have problem handling the yotes if we wasted a game playing them. ;D

Good win for the Jacks. UCA had good size and some excellent players. Aaron Fairooz, the 6-6 receiver, is pro material. Stat of the game: UCA had minus 16 yards rushing. Encouraging sign for the future: UCA started more seniors (8 on offense, 5 on defense) than the Jacks (3 on offense, 3 on defense). The Jacks are a young team, overall, and they are getting better every week.

Re: Central Arkansas - Beef Bowl

I attended and was impressed. You just had the feeling the Jacks were in control at all times...even when things didn't go our way, you still felt we had it and were going to win.

Kardoes played a very nice game.

UCA's #81, Fairooz, as noted by Jacked_Up, is a name you'll see in the NFL. He has all the tools.

They moved the ball with lots of short passes but my fear was Fairooz on a long route...I thought our d-backs did a good job against anything long and put a quick stop to any short completions.

Line play was great. I was sitting on the east side and watched the UCA team as they'd come off the field. Many were getting gimpy as the third quarter wore on. Don't get me wrong: the Bears have some very nice linemen but I thought the Jacks kept pounding away with as much intensity in the final 10 minutes as they had in the starting 10 minutes.

Fun game to attend. Great crowd. The Pride of the Dakotas Band made us all proud, too.
