    Re: I-AA rankings

Also the Great West is still the top division!!

Add that level of conference play to our schedule and it is mighty tough.

    2. Atlantic 10 (25.65)
    3. Gateway (29.69)
    4. Big Sky (32.78)
    5. Southern (34.21)
    6. Ivy League (42.01)
    7. Southland (48.33)
    8. Big South (50.40)

      Re: I-AA rankings

I think it deserves some mention. We move up to DI, create our own conference, and its the best conference in the nation! A lot of credit to the UC's and the SU's, unloading a weak UNC team didn't hurt our conference rank any. Now, how about winning the best conference in the DI-playoff ranks?

Unless the offense gets rolling a bit better, that will be a tall task. Especially in the Fargome. But a Hobo Day win over Davis would be really nice.

I'll do you one better.  If I was to tell you that we could sweep the season out and end up in the top 10 in rankings, would that be something you'd be interested in?

            Re: I-AA rankings

MJA, I'll settle for winning out and earning the conference title. The polls are too subjective; UC-Davis is probably still living off of its win against Stanford last year. The only ratings I'll ever get excited over are the actual ones used to determine the playoffs. After all, USD had the great raankings last year in the polls and they were still shut out of the playoffs.

My post was more intended as a joke (if you watch Entourage on HBO you would know that my post was a nod to a running joke on that show). I think winning the conference would be a HUGE accomplishment considering we'd have to win at least 2 out of 3 against NDSU, UC-Davis and Poly as well as not stumbling against a much better SUU squad. If we go 2-2 in conference play, that will be an accomplishment.

Sorry, MJA. I don't have cable and have never seen Entourage. :-[

I am hopeful that we can catch Poly off-guard, overwhelm Davis with a record-contending Hobo Day crowd, and take care of businees at Southern Utah. If that would happen, the NDSU game would likely decide the conference title! This team could easily have fallen apart after the UNI game, but we held on at Nicholls and shocked McNeese with a great comeback. When we have all aspects of the game working, we should be able to compete with any team on the I-AA (FCS) level.

I think it's a given that if we can somehow manage to knock off Poly at their house, we will be somewhere in the bottom quarter of all three I-AA polls. If that happens, that'll be a pretty amazing turnaround from where we were closer to the start of this season.

Thats why I don't put too much merit in to these types of calculations. They aren't completely without merit but they often factor in too many variables and ignore others.

Oh, I don't know, they're pretty fun to bat around, as long as you remember that the number they come up with is a representation of the team, it isn't the team itself. The Loss Which Shall No Longer Be Discussed does hurt quite a bit in these kind of rankings.
