    Re: One more recruit.....

    jackrabbit1979,

Talked with several coaches...the general feeling is they are excited about this class of recruits. With the entire OL and DL returning, the base is there. There are a number of talented athletes to move into the starting positions. The QB situation is the only one that concerns them. By that I mean they are very confident that the starter next year will be the right one, it is up to the 4 candidates...who wants it the most. The off season training is going fantastic.

    Go Jacks !!!!!

        Thanks for the video link!

Looks like a great get, he has some serious quicks. Looking forward to seeing him make some big plays on defense.

            Re: One more recruit.....

Met Cole on his recruiting trip here. He's a really good kid from a small town in Georgia. Was talking to one of my friends and he said that this kid slipped through the cracks of Mississippi State and Alabama (I think). Somehow gave out too many scholarships or something like that....but WHATEVER HAPPENED HE'S A STEAL!!! He's really really quick. I was told a couple of his teamates went to a couple of big time D-1s but he had the better stats. TRUE 4.4 is what I was told. The kid I talked to was just pumped that he was here and he said he's help out a ton..especially because that's what we need on defense.

I know exactly why we picked him up and it starts with Coach Stig. I have nothing but respect for the man, regardless of who he recruits.

If what I am reading about this guy is true, he may be the real diamond in the rough...Hard to believe he was still available. This is why coaches hold a couple of scholarships till the very end.

It appears we must still have at least one left.

                      From Terry's blog:
                      http://blogs.argusleadermedia.com/sp...y-edition.html

"SDSU recruited its newest football signee, defensive back and kick returner, Cole Brodie, for only 10 days, finding out about him thanks to a phone call from the dad of defensive lineman Kyle Sheehan. A Georgian, Brodie - described by Jacks coach John Stiegelmeier as a “Yes, sir, no, sir” guy - visited Liberty and got a home visit from Southern Miss. As a junior, he broke former Auburn star Kenny Irons’ school record for rushing, but missed four games as a senior due to a high ankle sprain.

“He’s going to bring a mentality into our program that is unique because he’s grown up around some of the best football in America,” Stiegelmeier said. “He’s been around an environment where football is 12 month a year all four years of high school.”

Another prospect will visit campus this weekend."

Cole is running with the 2nd team defense and with the return teams. Very possible he will be starting before the season is over. He was one who slipped thru the cracks and we were there to offer.......a good coaching staff does things like that

I stated this when we first got him. I was told by some defensive players when he visited that he probably would be starting next year. They were really talking him up and doing anything and everything possible to get him to come. He's a nice kid too from a small town. He'll fit in well. I don't know everything about recruits, but this kid is supposed to be the real deal. We'll have to wait and see!

                              Re: One more recruit.....

This goes against what Terry V. stated in his article: http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.../70818002/1002 which was posted in the "Fall Camp Stories" thread. There Terry writes:
...It’s likely that the Jacks will redshirt every true freshman for the first time since moving to NCAA Division I...
So yes, we will have to wait and see what happens with Cole. I hope to be seeing him play as a true freshman if the coaching staff feels he will have a positive impact this year!

                                From Terry V's blog today:

"Described by head coach John Stiegelmeier as “everything we expected and more,” true freshman Cole Brodie will have his redshirt lifted.

The 5-8, 185-pounder, who broke former Auburn star Kenny Irons’ single-season rushing record as a junior from Dacula, Ga., will see time on special teams - both as a returner and on coverage - and at cornerback."
