  • Re: 2007 Recruits

Nebraska Preps is reporting Imperial Nebraska Safety/Athlete Matt May has been getting interest from SDSU. He is 6'1 185 and indicated SDSU was waiting to make an offer based on whether another llinebacker committed. That player may be Delano's fullback/linebacker Dominique Clare who has reportedly committed to the Jacks.

I know the Jacks were planning on getting to the DIAA Max of 63 this year. Does anyone know how many signings that might represent?

This is probably on here somewhere, but I can't find it. How many players did we redshirt last year?

I read in the Dallas Morning News yesterday that we got a commitment from a 6-3 215 LB. defensive end from Flower Mound, TX (Dallas Suburb) Wish I had a name but cant remember it. That high school turns out tons of D1 talent.

Flower Mound defensive end Eric Wood (6-3, 215) has committed to South Dakota State.

Matt Ulrich (OL) Rushford-Peterson.  6-8, 285.  Undecided.  His finalists include Winona State, South Dakota State, and Augustana.  Played on a state championship team.
Here is another recruit we may be after.  I got this from the Bison Media Blog.

              http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/

              Go State!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

P.S. I wonder if he can play basketball. He would solve our need for an inside presence that would not get pushed around.

Here is a link to Eric Wood's varsity team picture. He is #35 on the top row. Quite a High School Football website. The take their football pretty serious down in Texas.

Matt Ulrich would be a good recruit. He is from our part of the state. Also a very good basketball player. I see in the paper is scores in double figures in most all games. Also is from the same high scholl as Steve Heiden. According to all reports he is a big, mobile OL. Never have too many guys like that.

It's so hard to tell with OL from high school how they're going to end up in college.

Unless you're a FBS recruit, you're probably not going to get a full ride your freshman season. That's probably why he's considering Winona and Augi.

Can you back up either part of your posts with any sort of evidence?

So hard to tell about OL...why is that position different to judge than any other in football?

And are there any FBS type recruits that you can list that did receive full-rides. Or non-FBS type recruits who did not receive a full ride?

Come on man...your posts are starting to bore me more and more as I read them.

FBS schools can only offer full rides.

Quick story on our new DE:

                            http://hs.beloblog.com/archives/2006/11/03/

Flower Mound playoff-bound after beating Coppell

Flower Mound 31, Coppell 21, final here at Cowboy Stadium/Buddy Echols Field/the house that Coppell built/Big Red Central ... whatever you wanna call it.

Congratulations to coach Cody Vanderford and the Flower Mound Jaguars, who earned their first-ever trip to the postseason after beating Coppell. Give credit to Flower Mound's defense, which finished with four interceptions and forced Coppell to turn the ball over on downs twice.

That sophomore DB tandem of Collin Ashley and Michael Williams is going to be something special. The two had three of the four interceptions. Combine their actions with the play of DLs Eric Wood and Rashad Sanders, and you have a quality performance against one of the area's top-ranked offenses. . . . (read more)

FBS can offer 85 full rides, FCS can offer 63 but can only divide them into 85.  I'm not sure that I agree that freshman don't often recieve full rides to FCS schools as the majority of scholarships that are offered are going to be full rides.  The least number of full rides that could be offered is 41, with the remaining 22 being split in half to make the 85 total.  The max number of schollies that Winona can offer in the NSIC is 16 I believe (could be 24, I know its less than the 32 allowed in D2), and with Augie joining that conference as well they will also have to meet the conference limit.  I kind of doubt they would be offering more than we are, but its entirely possible.

I'm guessing (pure speculation only) that we are offering more than 41 full rides with our 63 and probably doing something more like 52 full with the last 11 split 3 ways or something to reward players that may have walked on in prior years for staying with the program.  Anybody have insight on how we are handling scholarships now that we are going to be fully funded?

Why would offensive line be any harder to project for a player than other positions?
