Here's some info on Woody, appears to be a pretty good b-ball player as well.

              Re: 2007 Recruits

Orne was evidently down to Drake and SDSU. He is one of the top Basketball players in Iowa at 6'5 240 and if Nagy ever needs to request another football call up (I hope not) Orne would be topping the list.

              Other tidbits from Preps site:
Erich Feller-Safety from Charles City Ia has been offered by SDSU and is getting looks from Gateway Schools.
John Kirwan-lineman from Sioux City has been offered.
Chris Tracy-Running back from West Lyon is getting interest from SDSU.

I'm wondering if Jacks are in the mix for Travis Rhone a running back out of Cedar Rapids who went to Fort Dodge CC out of high school. Jacks were interested in him out of high school, but he evidently did not have the grades.

Feller verbally commits to South Dakota St. for football

Published: Friday, January 5, 2007 10:52 AM CST

Erich Feller, a Charles City senior, has verbally committed to attend South Dakota State University on a football scholarship according to Comet Head Coach Steve Stallsmith.

Feller garnered first-team all-state and all-district honors as a defensive back during the 2006 season. He was also voted Charles City’s most valuable player after recording 130 total tackles and racking up six touchdowns with 554 receiving yards. . . . (read more)

                  Re: 2007 Recruits

Getting very excited to see some of the new recruits that are committing to the Jacks. Putting there skills and trust in our coaching staff. MJA said it earlier.....The kids need to choose a school based on getting a quality education, being treated fair and a chance to play football at the college level with an excellent program. Many schools try to baffle there recruits with all the glitz they can provide. I am just very happy and proud to say my son plays for the Jacks....

Now off my soapbox.....I look forward to see our whole recruiting class to see what areas on the team we fill.

                  Go Jacks !!!!!!

                    Re: 2007 Recruits

Dirk was second team all state as a sophomore at tihgt end, that year Fairfield (Iowa) made it to the final four in 3a.  They moved him to quarterback as a junior, he didn't see alot of defense action that year. As a senior he made all state at linebacker,  he played quarterback and was also their kicker.  He didn't get off the field much.  I watched his last game at fairfield, great athlete, good instincts, hits like a truck.  The third week in October, he was Iowa Radio player of the week in 3a, in a game against Keokuk, who was heavily favored, he had 100 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing, threw for another TD, and had 2 picks on D, one went for a 100 yard TD in an upset win. Can't wait to see him play at SDSU!

Some more tidbits from Terry V's argus blog (http://blogs.argusleadermedia.com/sports/)

Jacks football coach John Stiegelmeier said that five high school seniors have verbally committed to SDSU, four from Iowa and one from South Dakota. The team’s top needs are wide receiver and safety, but it will likely sign at least one player at each position.
“We’ve had a lot more interest initially because of our (successful) season,” Stiegelmeier said. “To say you’re ranked at the end of the year is a big deal.”
Another in-state prospect considering SDSU is Hurley-Marion’s Coulter Boyer, a 6-5, 225-pound tight end/defensive end. The Argus Leader Elite 45 pick – who is friendly with Jacks recruit Jake Steffen – also has a scholarship offer from NDSU.
National signing day is February 7.
I think Boyer is a decent basketball player as well...looks like SDSU/NDSU are going head to head on another.

So, according to Terry V's info we have 1 verbal from a SD athlete (Steffan) and four from Iowa Athletes (Kool, Orne, Feller, and ???). Does anybody know the other verbal, or did I miss it somewhere here.

Eric Peitz DE of Crofton,Ne has chosen Colorado State over SDSU. Indicated one of the reasons he didn't choose SDSU was he didn't want to play in the shadow of his brother who played at SDSU.

East's Kirwan plans to play SDSU football

                                Posted from 01/15/07:

Impressed with the positive direction the program is heading, East High senior John Kirwan has a made a verbal committment to a scholarship offer from NCAA Division I-AA South Dakota State.

"SDSU is relatively new in Division I-AA, but they had a great season and it will be exciting to be part of the direction the school is going," said Kirwan, who played in the defensive and offensive interior lines, tight end and running back for East's Class 4A playoff team last fall.

"I was impressed with the the coaches, especially Coach (John) Stiegelmeier," said Kirwan. "They don't play too many true freshmen up there (Brookings), but I'll do whatever they want.

"It would be nice to play the first year, but you've got to look to the future, too."  .  .  .

The 18-year-old Kirwan, one of the strongest players on the East squad, bench presses in the neighborhood of 400 pounds, squats over 500 pounds has been clocked in 4.89 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

"I might try to throw during the track season, but I'll spend a lot of time between now and next fall in the weight room," said the 6-2, 260-pounder. . . . (read more)
