I would have to agree...this is a great addition. The question will be how long before he makes an impact. Welcome Jake...we look forward to your future here at SDSU.

This is a huge verbal for the Jacks. To be able to sign a kid from SD that had other bigger D1 options outside of the state.

I'm posting a portion of the Argus release for those not wanting to take the time to click the link.

                  Steffen verbally commits

Stickney-Mt. Vernon has another Division I scholarship football player, and the Jacks have another Steffen.

Knights senior Jake Steffen has verbally committed to play for SDSU, where brother, Mike, will be a redshirt sophomore receiver next season.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Steffen also seriously considered scholarship offers from Wyoming and NDSU and visited Iowa, which didn't make an offer.

"This season, they had obviously made the decision easier," Steffen said, referring to the Jacks 7-4 mark and No. 22 ranking. "My first year of eligibility, they proved they can probably vie for a national championship. They were the first to offer me back in the beginning of my junior year, so they were always up there. Plus, I followed them pretty heavily. I was at every home game.".......

Is Mt. Vernon where Chad Greenway is from?

                        Re: 2007 Recruits

A lot of people were saying that Jake was farther along than greenway was during high school. I can verify that since I haven't seen either play, but I know Big 10 and Big 12 schools were scouting him.

I have also heard that the football coaching staff feels the overall recruiting for 2007 is going very well up to this point. I will be one looking forward to the early signing day of Feb. 7th.

It's a good sign to have a family member committ to the same program. Also great to see brothers on the same team.

                                Re: 2007 Recruits

I spoke with one of the coaches last night at the game and he told me that recruiting was going pretty well. I thought he said there were about 5 commits to this point. Right now they are in their quiet period so they can only contact each recruit once a week. One thing that I found exciting/interesting about the conversation is that he mentioned that they have been butting heads with San Diego State, Wyoming and Ohio University to name a few.
