I agree it would be nice to have Moss on the football team, but doubt Nagy is going to risk injury. I know there are few instances in DI athletics where players do both, but it is rare. I have noticed Moss at some football and recent basketball games along with his Brandon Valley teamate Nathan Mahone who is one of the top running backs in the state. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jacks are recruiting Mahone. Some of the Argus Leader Elite 45 players who may be on the Jacks radar based on size, speed and play making ability.

    Chas DeMars RB Winner
Dan O'Keefe 6'3 195 Roncalli LB(lists SDSU as one of the area schools recruiting him)
Jake Steffan 6'4 210 LB Mt Vernon (may be out of our reach)
Josh Pieper 6'6 270 Watertown OL (Can't teach size)
Ben Wardell 6'3 200 LB (I know it's Sturgis but Coach and former Jack Adolph Shepardson calls him the best to come out of Sturgis)
Sam Holsen 6'1 175 WR Washington
Curt Truhe 5'10 208 FB Elk Point
Tyler Lynch 6'4 280 OL Roosevelt (Another good/big lineman out of Roosevelt
Anthony Shawd 6'5 225 TE Lincoln
Alan Schmatz 6'3 195 WR RC Central

      Re: 2007 Recruits

I guess I already said this on the '08 thread but how many players does SD have each year at the division 1aa level? I understand that there's talent there, but I wonder how much time/man power is spent recruiting in-state. There is something to be said about recruiting in the surrounding area to help draw fans. I think that there will always be a 'token' Brookings High signing even if the talent's not there.

I wouldn't say that Jake Steffan is out of reach. He already has a brother in a Jacks uniform.

I hope he does join his brother on the Jacks, but he reportedly has some DIA offers to consider. With the success of Greenway all of a sudden it's not so much of a longshot for a good athlete to make it from Mount Vernon South Dakota and he might be the best one yet.

              Re: 2007 Recruits

There were six potential recruits here the weekend of Dec. 9th. I did not get names but Stig said they were pretty good players.

Well, I would certainly hope that recruits visiting campus would be "pretty good players." Kinda goes without saying, if you know what I mean . . .

From what I understand, last year there were 6 or 7 kids that were signed out of South Dakota. All but one (Antonio Thompson) walked on. The kid from Centerville that chose NDSU also was offered.

I have heard from some players that Jake Steffen is down to us and Wyoming, unless a Big 10 or 12 team steps in. I hope that the opportunity to play for a national championship outwieghs the opportunity to play in a nothing bowl game in mid December.

What position are they projecting for Jake Steffen? From what I understand, he's pretty versatile and could play a number of positions.

I would say LB would be Jake's best position. But I have also heard maybe TE.

                          Re: 2007 Recruits

I was watching the end of the Nebraska, Auburn game and wondered if Nebraska wished they had Parker Douglass as their kicker. The current Nebraska kicker had a season long made field goal of 40 yards. Nebraska had a chance to tie the game if they could kick a 46 yard field goal. Apparently they did not think he could kick it from that distance so they went for it on 4 and 11. They did not make it and turned the ball over to Auburn who essentially burned all of the remaining time on the clock.

The story Parker tells in his video interview on Gojacks.com, says that he was going to go to Nebraska and then they fired their head coach and named Callahan as the replacement coach. Parker is from Nebraska and had always wanted to play for the Huskers, but after they hired Callahan, he decided to play at SDSU instead.

That got me thinking, with Minnesota having just fired their head coach, will some of their recruits change their minds and maybe pick SDSU or NDSU. I'm sure a lot will depend upon whom the new coach is. It would also help if the Gateway would decide on conference expansion prior to signing day. I believe that signing day is Feb. 8th. The Gateway has stated that they would like to resolve the expansion issue by mid or late January.

Minnesota will be under some pressure to name a new coach before signing day, so recruits can decide on where they want to attend. This factor and the Gateway decision may benefit SDSU in this years recruiting class. Finishing in the Top 25 will help also.
