ORNE- A BEAST ON THE BOARDS

Jerry Meyer
Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting Recruiting Analyst

Scoring 30 points in one thing, but grabbing 30 rebounds is a whole other story. Three-star 2007 prospect Woody Orne did actually grab 30 rebounds while also scoring 36 points in a game this year. As expected, colleges are starting to check in on the 6-foot-6, 230-pound power forward from Fairfield (Iowa) High School.
Averaging 22 points and 15.5 rebounds per game this season, Orne had his 36 points and 30 rebounds in a 79-74 double overtime loss to Mid-Prairie High School. Esteemed Mid-Prairie head coach and the chair of the USA Basketball Men's Junior Development Committee Don Showalter commented on Orne.

"Orne is an excellent offensive rebounder with the ability to get the rebound out of his area and score," said Showalter. "His midrange game is very good, and he can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket and finish. He is the type of player that compliments the players around him."

Orne, who has already unofficially visited Iowa, Illinois State, Drake and Northern Iowa, said he is wide open at this point in his recruitment, but he did list some of the schools he is hearing from.

"Drake has been to a couple games," said Orne. "I'm also hearing from Illinois State, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette and Utah."

Orne is also a talented tight end and defensive end on the football field, but basketball is the sport of his future.

"Iowa and Iowa State are recruiting me in football," he said. "But I would much rather play basketball."

Orne will run with the Iowa Barnstormers on the AAU circuit.

If he did verbal it doesn't sound like he is very excited about coming to SDSU[/quote]

I thought about that after I read the article and posted, but couldn't find a date. As usual I spoke a little sooner than I should have and am happy that he is coming to SDSU and that I was wrong in my assumption.

Sounds like a good one for us....
Warren's individual stats also are impressive. He has thrown for 1,624 yards on 72-for-139 passing with 18 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 614 yards and 12 touchdowns.

"Warren could be a threat at Division I," CSTV analyst Tom Lemming said. "If some school had two quarterback scholarships to offer, he could come in as a second guy and beat out the first guy."

Tim O'Halloran of Rivals.com has not seen Warren play, but watched him in a preseason seven-on-seven and in a couple of quarterback camps.

"He has a very strong arm," O'Halloran said. "But it may be difficult for him because many recruiters have made their decisions on quarterbacks."

Kirkpatrick has been pleased at how Warren has directed the Lions to their third consecutive state playoff berth.

"He has caught a lot of people by surprise," Kirkpatrick said. "I know people have their eye on him. He is a couple inches short but it is sad that kids have to fit in this cookie cutter. I think someone is going to get a steal here."

There is also a write up of Brad Iverson committing to SDSU in the print version of the Argus. It is in the sports breifs section which rarely gets updated on the online version of their website. The link would be:

But as you can see this is very old stuff.

Jacks get another one out of Iowa. Teddy Shonka is a first team all state reciever from Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Looks like he also plans to play baseball at SDSU. He is 6'1 195. Page down on the roster page he is #5.

This kind of has to do with recruiting so I thought I would post this here.
South Dakota State University football and women's soccer coaches will unveil their 2007 recruiting classes during a Signing Day Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

The noon luncheon, which is open to the public, will be held at the Days Inn (formerly the Brookings Inn) in Brookings. A soup and sandwich buffet will be available for $8.
