Quote from Jacks-D1 on Today at 9:33am

Blind hatred by both schools fans is the exact reason why I hope we don't play anytime in the foreseeable future. I'm sick of the crap and enjoy going to games were opposing schools aren't yelling at obscenities at each other the whole game and throwing dead animals on the field. I never said they aren't our rival, I said I don't want to play them anymore.
I believe that is the feeling of about 75% of Jackrabbit fans!

I wouldn't be surprised to see such a bill next session.....fortunately, it'll probably be done by Sen. Kloucek (which means it won't likely pass) ;D ;D ;D.

As others have said, the band is a huge part of the whole college football atmosphere. (It occurs to me that one reason why post-Hobo Day attendance falls off might just be that in the past the Pride has not been at all of those late-season games. When they're not there, even if they don't take the field for a half-time performance, it just isn't the same experience.)

We love the Pride. We want them at all the home games, not because we're mean or don't understand how difficult it is to blow a trumpet in a 15-degree sleet storm. We get that. But the band is such an integral part of the entire game-day atmosphere that their absence leaves a huge hole in the entire experience for fans.

That's where I, personally, come from on this issue.

How about another out-of-the-box idea: the full Pride is 400+ members. Take 100 of them (volunteers, or make it an elite thing) and call them the Hardcore Pride (the name probably needs some work). These musicians would form the school's late-football-season band for home games. Their job would be to play Ring the Bells and The Yellow and Blue, and just be the rowdy spirited core of the student section for the late games. Make it something that they get some added benefit for to compensate for sitting out in the cold for four hours in a couple of November Saturdays --(I don't know what kind of benefit off-hand, that would need to be fleshed out). They wouldn't go out onto the field for half-time (unless they wanted to, of course).

Maybe the Hardcore Pride would also be SDSU's traveling band for any away football games for which SDSU decides to send our band to (at Fargo; playoff games).
This is probably what will happen. Anytime there was a home game the first or second week of school the band was just a pep band with volunteers. For the end of the year game I imagine it will be everyone. No one has been able to verify a source on this, McKinney might have said they won't perform, meaning a marching show. There will be a band presence in the stands though. In my four years of band there was not an in-session home game that the band didn't have a presence at.

Why do you say that? Do you know the bill? They play because they get ridiculous gate profit from it (visitors get at least 20% of the gate).

Ok I haven't had the time to read through his thread. I am just wondering if the NDSU game will be on FSN. I have heard some rumors about why it might not be but wanted to see what you are hearing.

No, they restarted the rivalry in 1978 because the legislature passed a bill sponsored by former Iowa player and then Rep. Bill Reichardt to resume the series. The two teams didn't play from 1934 to 1977.

Terry V, our beat writer at the Argus, has stated it hasn't been confirmed the game will be on FSN but it is still a possibility at this point. I don't feel the pride playing or not playing will have any effect on if the game is on TV.

Ok thanks for the info. I really hope they push hard to get it on TV especially on FSN. I would think that SDSU would be doing everything in it power to get this done.

We may be doing everything in our power but the gamble always is, if the game is on TV...that is a bunch of people that won't attend the game in person. Especially since the game is in mid-November and there is a chance for bad weather. We'd much rather have the people in the stands than on their couch watching from afar. If both teams are doing well at the end of the season and the weather cooperates, attendance won't be affected much if the game is on TV or not.

Well, I have to disagree on this one. Trust me, if NDSU and SDSU have the type of seasons they had last year people will go to the game. NDSU will bring plenty of fans. One of NDSU's recruits last year was very intersted in NDSU because he saw them on FSN. A game on FSN will give both schools tons of exposure which money can't buy. Just my two cents.

I'm not convinced that having the game on TV would hurt attendance that much. It might but I'm not convinced. I also don't know if it would help recruiting as it applys to players or fans. I am in favor of pursuing the FSN possibility. No way I would miss being at that game in person regardless of FSN.

I would be at the game with the TIVO fired up at home to watch later. I think this would be great for both programs.
