    Re: 2017 Roster

Wait for Fall ball to establish 2017 roster as it is way too soon for the depth chart. You have players leaving football now, before Fall ball, suspensions and surprise performances (Spring or Fall ball) which will definitely change the chart.

There was talk of these changes towards the end of last year, and by the looks of it, it makes really good sense!!!

I thought Farina would go to OLB since he has 20 pounds on Balster, but the weights on the roster aren't probably the most accurate anyways. Plus, Dallas Brown was only 200 lbs and got the job done and then some.

I love that the NFL is evolving to this practice of putting a safety/LB hybrid in at OLB to counter the pass-happy offenses of today. The Cardinals did it last year with Deone Buchannon and other teams are following suite. Coach Stig seemed to adopt this awhile ago by having that one smaller LB that can ideally cover like a safety. It really helps when offenses are constantly switching formations to have a player that won't get too abused in a mis-match like an OLB typically will when they are forced to cover in space or a nickel CB trying to stop a run play.

Two long-snappers that are probably vying for a starting spot are Seth Gutzmer (Columbus, NE) and Bradey Sorenson (Yankton).

SDSU generally likes a safety/linebacker hybrid in one of their OLB spots and with the emergence of Balster, I wonder if they don't move Farina into that Jimmy Rodgers/Dallas Brown role next year. He's not afraid to hit.

I'm surprised you have Mullholland on this depth chart as I have heard better things about Logan Backus's performance this fall. I wouldn't be shocked if they moved Farina or Slade to OLB. It'd be nice to get all three safeties on the field as they all have talent, especially in passing situations.

Whoever is playing on the defensive line I hope they come out more aggressive and work to penetrate instead of just eating up blocks. I know that is our philosophy, but I hate it!

At corner, there is a lot of opportunity for growth and playing time for our young corners. I don't think any of the three (Brown, Washington, Mosley) are guaranteed their spot in the rotation again. Yes, they improved throughout last season but there was still too many mental errors.
I totally missed Backhaus. I only put Mulholland as a #2 at LOLB because his size seems to fit that smaller linebacker spot. With them needing to replace 2 of the 3 LB spots and with several unknown players, it's really anyone's guess how it shakes out. We will probably know more after spring ball.

It would nice to see one of the DE's create some pressure on the outside with speed. I moved Elijah Wilson from DE to DT, but he certainly might stay at DE. He was pretty well thought of when he signed last year. I don't have any doubts that Soulek will provide pressure from the inside or eat up double teams to free other players.

Stacker is a big man! HAHA. I'm interested to see what he looks like after a spring/summer of weight lifting.

Of course, there is the example of Charles Jefferson (played by Forest Whitaker) in the 80's film "Fast Times at Ridgmont High". For those not familiar with that movie: Jefferson was a standout football player for Ridgmont who was rumored to not actually attend school and only fly in to town for games.
Goes to show that there is life after football. Best wishes to Sam Koob and his pursuit of happiness in the pharmacy field. Many great opportunities besides the corner drug store.

Sam Koob has 1 yr remaining but Stig has said he is going to forego that year because he is in last year of his Pharmacy degree which are in Sioux Falls (clinicals).
