Since we have spent some time talking about attendance this year in other threads, I thought it would interesting just to see how it stacks up.
9/10 Drake: 15,171
9/17 Cal Poly (Beef Bowl): 16,887 *2nd Largest crowd at the time
10/1 Western Illinois (Military Appreciation): 14,155
10/22 Youngstown State (Hobo Day): 17,730 *Crowd record
11/5 Missouri State (Dairy Drive): 10,828
11/12 University of South Dakota: 15,345

Total Attendance: 90,116
Average Attendance: 15,019.33

The attendance yesterday was respectable at DJD as I notice that ISUr had 7000+ and YSU had 11,000+ as host teams with some success in their respective seasons. I am not certain how either of those venues report attendance in the seats filled vs tickets sold. WIU had fewer than 4,000 for UNI. Of course the bison had 18,000+ inside the stadium to top all games. The support of the new stadium in Brookings easily grabs an above average grade at 15,000 fans per game.

I attended my first game in the DJDS this weekend.

My first thought. Tailgating and just looking at the stadium, it makes me feel like we are little more "big time" college football. I never went to the backyard, but where we at near the library was plenty of fun. Fans of both teams were very nice to each other, strangers offering food to everyone, lots of fun all around. Just the view of the stadium from where we tailgated at made me think, "wow, this is something else compared to the big old ugly concrete bleachers of coughlin that used to sit there."

In the game, I was a little disappointed with the size of the crowd. But then I have to keep reminding myself how many people the stadium holds. I come on here today and see that there was 15,345 people at the game. At CAS, that crowd would be substantial. All bleachers filled and people standing several deep around the fence. At times it was loud, at times it felt a little dead. I thought the student turnout was a little disappointing, but I get it was a 3 day weekend. I also walked under the student bleachers during halftime, and there were lots of them pouring out. Just listening to them talking as a I walked by, most seemed happy the game was at halftime and it was time to go party somewhere.

Overall, there does not appear to be a bad seat in the stadium. That size of a crowd at Coughlin, would have resulted in thousands of people having bad seats or standing. I think that speaks volumes. 15,000+ people and nobody gets a bad seat anymore.

I'm looking forward to seeing how SDSU stacks up to its peers in FCS this year. Last year, as reported by the NCAA, the average FCS attendance at home games was down from 2014 to 7,815. Montana led FCS with an average of 24,139. NDSU was in 7th with 18,497 and YSU was 13th at 14,854. We were 16th overall with 12,899, a 16.5% increase. Based on last year's numbers, we can expect to be ranked around the 12th this year.

The MVFC was 2nd in average with 10,916. The Southwestern Athletic led FCS with 12,823 and the Big Sky was third with 9,877.
