Any word on the plan for tailgating this season. The ticket office has been pretty quiet about getting us the information for our reserved spots. I hope they don't change it this late we have made some upgrades for the coming season.
Fine by me. I grew up with this stuff. And trust me there was no "excitement" around Saturdays during football season in Brookings prior to tailgating. There was Hobo day and there was no other day that truly generated excitement and community spirit. They handed tickets out in the grade school like they were candy in hope to build a crowd. Tailgating did turn that around. If I had a source(or time) I'm sure attendance prior and after the beginning of tailgating would be dramatically different, prior to going D1. It has become an event. Rebuilding crowds once they go away is no easy feat.

So, let me ask. Is there a location I can go to look at the new rules? I haven't seen it linked and don't want to jump to too many conclusions.
But clarify for me: if what I'm reading here is correct, The people who brought their RV down from Millbank (had the "M" on the side) if what I'm reading is correct they will no longer be able to park by the backyard in the north gravel lot?
And if my friends show up to tailgate 1.75 hours before the game the parking attendants (apparently making $20/hour) are going to turn them and their money away even if there's space?
Let me state this, TAILGATING IS PART OF THE GAMEDAY EXPERIENCE They (admin) need to whatever they can to enhance and or mantian the current gameday atmosphere. The goal is that others will Have FOMO and will NEED to be there. if they screw this up (it's been heading in the right direction IMO) it will be hard to recover. I know for a fact that if the tailgating portion disappears from our game-day experience we won't be coming back (10 of us). for us it's the whole thing tailgating and the fellowship that occurs not just the games (which we also enjoy).
If you think that some of NDSU's success has nothing to do with the overall game-day experience I'm afraid you're wrong. and if our admin needs to know what tailgating should be I suggest they look to the north and follow their lead (as much as it pains me to say that out loud) They have their tailgating figured out!

Rules are not posted online yet. I turned mine in with my signature, but realize I should have made a copy. They didn't appear that complicated or that hard to understand.
The folks with the RV would have to park in a different lot UNLESS they have a reserved tailgating spot.
If your friends show up with less than two hours to go until game time, they can park in the gravel lot north of backyard if there is room. They just will not be able to drive down the paths and park in their reserved tailgating spot.

Makes more sense thanks WSR. Hopefully they are still allowing tailgating activities in that gravel lot, S it's where we prefer to be.
I agree UPD has been so worried with me being in the tailgate area after is closes but all I am doing is packing up, loading my tables and grill but what are they too afraid to go tell the large group of students that you can take over these tailgate areas or you cannot steal food from that tailgate. If UPD would have done their job I don't think this would have been the issue it is becoming.

I had the same thought: wanted to read the rules myself. Well, I've done that and there are a lot of changes. I have a copy of the rules now and will try to figure out how to make them readable on this site.
I haven't had a tailgating spot but have had priority parking and would wander back to the Backyard before most games.
I wonder how locked-in the athletic department is on the new rules. Its getting late but perhaps reasonable people can convince the athletic dept that the changes should be tuned up.

If you have an Android phone try the cam scanner app it's excellent.

Once a large group of students gathers, there is literally nothing UPD can do. Trying to disperse a large group of drunk students is a recipe for a riot, no matter how unlikely. There is ZERO room for the possibility of a riot or mass violence in an area where children are present, sorry if that runs contrary to anyone's idea of fun.
With that being said,
Police forces should not be used as crowd control, they should be used for law enforcement. This is the root of complaints about the UPD IMO - they have attempted to enforce policies using law enforcement techniques.
If someone is breaking the law, UPD should be involved. If someone is breaking tailgating rules, someone from the athletic department should be involved.
For example, if someone has glass containers in their tailgating lot, an athletic department official in a bright yellow SECURITY shirt should approach the lot and have a discussion regarding the glass container policy. A high ranking university official as well as UPD need to be accessible for situations that escalate. If necessary, a formal letter can be sent to the owner of the lot detailing their violations. If the problem persists week after week, the lot renter loses the privilege of their spot. If you break tailgating policies, you lose the privilege of tailgating in your spot. This does not require law enforcement interaction.
My bottom line is that UPD should stick to enforcing the LAW, not enforcing tailgating policies.

I don't know the particulars, but am guessing that the budget for UPD or a crowd control Security company isn't all that generous. The day of Barney Fife security are long gone. Pro-active is the word, before their senses of entitlement start building. In the immortal words of a semi-illiterate employee of Seneca Foods spoken to the plant manager just moments before he was escorted out the door, "Good help ain't cheap and cheap help ain't good".
So...you are saying I shouldn't knee jerk react to knee jerk reactions? Sorry but I have a real problem with 1 car in the tailgate area. I have a real problem with not being able to pull in 2 hours prior to a game. Neither of those rules seem to have been a problem until evidently now. I'm not paying for a tailgate area I have to walk to lugging a grill or a couple tables or whatever. I don't think those are knee jerk at all. Not to mention grabbing said equipment(tables chairs, grills , etc) and lugging it back to your parked cars prior to getting in to the stadium, probably being harassed by UPD who couldn't be bothered to do their job last year and I look like a slow easy target in an effort to justify their paycheck this year. I'm not purchasing this spot for an extra workout program. As for stuff getting ruined, I think First National Bank can swing that note and not break a financial sweat.
I remember Hobo Day '90. I was at Hobo Day '90. I know more about Hobo Day '90 than most. I'm not worried about that happening again because you just simply don't have the High Schoolers that could get that started anymore.
Did you read JackMD's post above? Multiple parking passes will be given but only one vehicle can remain at the site. Assuming he's correct, can't you drive in, drop your stuff off then park your car? Is that not a workable solution? It's maybe not perfect but with a little better attitude towards all this it can be workable.
Just because First National Bank can afford to replace their stuff makes it ok? That's dumb. Really dumb. It's not ok for that to happen.
Not going to comment on your riot comment but just to point out that statement might be as ridiculous as the First National Bank being able to afford to replace stuff that got destroyed.

Riots aren't even possible anymore. Today's high schoolers just don't have it in them.
