New RB coach is John Johnson. Think he was RB coach at Missouri Southern.

Per Football Scoop: "Youngstown State: Per source, Nic McKissic-Luke has left South Dakota State to be the running backs coach at Youngstown State."
From what I was told, no ill will on Nic's or SDSU's part. He just wants to be closer to family.

Lucas Kleinschrodt is another new coach on staff (according to his twitter account). Not sure in what role (GA, Quality Control, Full-time Assistant?) He was previously at Augie as a GA coaching DBs.

Coach Flynn had a very youthful face, in fact, I would have asked him for his ID if he had tried to purchase a beer. That's assuming I owned a bar. Lots of time still left for law school.

My gut tells me that he left here to boost his resume and learn from some different coaches, so that he can hopefully be in a better position to become the head coach at SDSU whenever that may open up. But at the same time, you can't wait around for that. What's a better job? Position coach in a power 5 conference (if he were to ever get there) or head coach at FCS level? You can make an argument for each, especially pay wise, however it comes down to your career goals and what you want to accomplish.
Brad Salem (former Augie HC) now the QBs coach at Michigan St. makes $312,000.

The big difference is recruiting, teaching and coaching is not an 8-4 job (I am one, I know), but I'm guessing he is making pretty decent money teaching and coaching at High School, and yes you do a lot, but you can shove some things to the side if you must, and your job is tied to you for the most part, not to an older head coach.

The difference is when you go to coaching, all of a sudden you are recruiting, watching film, traveling much more, and probably not for much more money. Now I don't know the guy, maybe he wants to be a college coach, then its worth it. But if its not really your goal, then well is it worth it?

Some coaches make the jump easy from HS to college, others really struggle. But its not as easy of call as many think it is.

For a coach that is now on an NFL staff. He is more likely to be picked up by an SEC school than come back to SDSU as a position coach. Stranger things have happened.

As a side note, after leaving SDSU he nearly tripled his salary after 2 seasons. It is a freaking miracle we keep any coaches with the success we have had.

I think you are correct. Yes we were lucky have him as long as we did. If the HC job opens, he will apply.

Pure speculation on my part here, but maybe the potential uncertainty at Southern Miss timed up with an open OL job at SDSU is a good enough reason for him to come back home?

Doubt he would want to go back to his old position but he could recruit lineman and coach them. His play calling is another story though.
