I think the game day experience changes according the to section your sitting it. I really enjoy the section I sit in currently, lots of people around me frequently stand and holler (almost every 3rd down and some 2nd downs). I've never had anyone tell me to sit down and shut up. I don't feel it is as taboo to stand and yell to support the team as it has been in years past.

Good discussion on these points. I hope most would agree WE have a long way to go as a fan base to improve the atmosphere on game day. I've had season tickets for 15 years for both bb and fb. Good grief they have to coax us out of our seat for a big 3rd down. 1st and 2nd downs don't matter? I think we can do better.

Gameday experience

SDSU fans (which I am) just an observation....the NDSU game....most of their fans were good (remember we have some dinks of our own in blue) but they were standing and yelling from the opening kick off as SDSU fans were irritated and wanted them to sit down. My question.....why weren't we standing?

Never been there, but I've seen Bisonville threads where people complained about being told to sit down at The FD.

I've seen the same at Husker games also and no one complains about their culture.

edit: this is not to say that we have plenty of crowd participation.

All I do is stand, cheer, clap, and make some noise. I don't drink. If that is how they are going to control the crowd why do we wonder why the game atmosphere is the way it is.

I don't have a problem with this behavior assuming there was no profanity, and it does seem odd that you would be asked to sit.

Is their job to control the fun too? No usher or employee working the game should ever tell a fan to sit down and shut up. lol They should be telling them to get up and cheer and have fun. It's a football game for pete's sake. C'mon people!

We have different opinions. There have been many times I wished an usher/security/employee would escort a drunk using profanity. Yes, there are times when it is most definitely called for. When I've seen ushers talk to people, my usual thought is "yes, that person was crossing the line and making an entire section of people uncomfortable."

There are already people at the game who have the job of telling people to get up and have fun. They wear school colors, hold megaphones or pom poms, and they are generally ignored. They are known as cheerleaders.

That is no good. If I want peanuts without the shell I will eat a Snickers, otherwise I want salty shells please.

We will continue to have a difference of opinion on this and that's ok. One thing that also puzzles me is all this talk about increasing attendance but all of the home games are on TV. Many of my friends are getting their game day experience at home. I'm betting there is $$ involved someplace.

I'm with you. Not everybody is. Need a separate section for the SF_Rabbit and his crew. The "get of my lawn" section. Get a newspaper, bottomless cup of coffee and a pair of cheaters with your game ticket.

Who would have thought that being considerate was such a radical concept.

The reality is, that's the NCAA Game Day Environment and Fan Code of Conduct guide. If you can't deal with that reality, there isn't much more I can say. Have a great day.

We have this discussion every year. I'm with SFRabbit on this one.

Someone has yet to convince me why "standing up" is so important. I can make just as much noise sitting down, while still keeping everyone around me involved, happy, and able to see the game.

For those of you in the "I have to stand" crowd, just have some consideration for the others around you. Some have been long time donors and just can't get around as well as they used to. Standing might be a chore for them. Keep in mind that could be you someday. Some of you are so completely unaware of your surroundings it is unbelievable.

If you stand and impede my family's view, I am well within my rights to ask you to sit, or have an usher do it for me.
