I've noticed a pattern developing in recruitment and the common denominator is coach Dan Jackson. Three years running and the first offers out have been in Jackson's recruiting area of Nebraska. (In 2015, our first three recruits were for CJ Johnson from Bellevue, NE - Taryn Christion from Sioux Falls and Michael Daniel from Brookings.)

The first two are studs and if I were betting will go to a FBS school. Brett Kitrell will likely be a Husker or another Power 5 conference defensive tackle. Sterling Smith is very fast and has excellent size, I'd expect him to become a Husker if he gets the offer.

Noah Urbanek is the surprise offer to me. It doesn't surprise me that we are making an offer, just that we've done it this early. The kid can play! I've officiated several of his games as he progressed in his football career and he is a hard nosed kid that is hard to tackle. His coaches love not only what he brings on the field, but the attitude he spreads among his teammates off the field. I wish the kid had more speed. Kearney had one of the premier track programs anywhere and while this kid contributes, he is not extraordinary with his speed. He does not have Zenner speed. Maybe that will develop with more weight lifting and training. He does, however, have game speed. It happens with some athletes when they face competition on the field.

The key is that Jackson sees something in these kids and we make offers earlier than the big schools. I was curious if he has more freedom to make offers early or if he is just more aggressive and better at selling his prospects?

Pleasantly surprised we offered this kid. I've officiated two of his games this year and didn't realize he was an underclassman. Physically, he is much more mature than other players that I've officiated at this level this year. He has a good motor and disrupted the QB/RBs in the backfield many times. He did this versus midlevel talent in both games, so I didn't pay much more attention to him. He is a big reason why their team is very competitive at the C1 level in Nebraska. I trust that he competed well in summer camps against higher level opponents.

Hope he continues to improve!
