I'm overwhelmed by the number of recruits that have been offered so far this year. No doubt, many of these recruits will select programs that may fit them better including numerous Power Five conference schools. I'm also guessing that some of these offers will be pulled once we fill up with commits and certain positions. No doubt, coach Stig's crew has been very busy meeting with so many recruits.

It is also clear that the staff feels very strong about having enough quality depth on the o-line. 17 offers thus far! The injury bug in recent years has created some problems up front. Having ZZ and a veteran QB have masked some of the injury problems, but there is no substitute for having strong line play in creating a winning environment.

Recruiting early and often is becoming the new normal. A few years ago, we'd would typically have a few offers out and a bunch of interest in recruits. This year's class started a year ago in early May. We have one commit, 48 pending offers, and have lost out on 3 recruits to Power Five conference schools. We have not even posted in potential recruits that staff has shown interest in. That used to dominate space on our recruiting list.

Interesting snap shot of where the offers are geographically. I encourage people not to get territorial with this as I think there are multiple reasons why the offers are going. First of all, the competition for recruits in some major areas makes it interesting. Regional hotbeds like the Minneapolis/Saint Paul - Omaha - Kansas City - Chicago are hit hard by not only our FCS peers, but by the BIG 10/Big 12/SEC schools. If you don't make headway early with those recruits, you may never have a chance with them or future recruits in those regions. Arizona has been a successful area for us and they have the same type of competition, but to a lesser degree than states like California, Texas, Florida.

I believe we will see more offers from less metro focused areas like South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The following map highlights where we have given offers to including those who have given a verbal commitment to us or other schools.

Seriously it's getting very complicated. The more new people to SD the better is the bottom line IMO. This what a football program should be doing. We only have them for four or five years and with a life ahead of them, some just might grow roots here in good old SD.

Seems the MVFC has really expanded our footprint for recruiting. We've gone from being primarily SD, MN, NE, and IA to expanding the territory to include IL, KS, MO and WI.

Arizona has also turned into a great pipeline, although I'm not sure how that fits in other than there must be a coach or two with good connections down there.

I think the Arizona kids past and present have had a great experience at SDSU and the word spreads.

Arizona is a hotbed for recruiting, there is a ton of talent in the valley there are direct flights to Sioux Falls which helps with sending coaches down there and sending recruits up to Brookings on official visits. But I also think some of it is there is 2 really solid sports reporters who for whatever reason know the exact minute SD-State makes an offer.

This lanky Shamrock would be another big target to throw to. (6'6" 175) Would need tons of work in the weight room and the dinner table to become a TE. Not super quick, but with that frame and he catches well with his hands, he would make many QBs happy. You gotta love the name Paddy Devlin playing for the Shamrocks at Saint Patrick HS.
