This post is inspired by GopherHole's, but Carr committed not to long after this camp last year and Makiah Slade blew up at this this camp by running a 4.46 and high jumping 39 inches. Most importantly though, this camp is where some of our future commits formed bonds with each other before they ever committed. For example, Carr and Slade spent the next weeks and months tweeting back and forth with each other talking about how much the they wanted to and how awesome it would be to play together.

We are way ahead of last year in the number of offers, but I'm anxiously waiting for the first verbal.
Carr was a big get for you guys last year. Big win over NDSU and other MVFC schools

I can confirm this. Big County Preps with the first NDSU/SDSU mixup of the 2015 season that I have seen. He does not have NDSU offer and tells me no contact with NDSU. Heck of athlete

Obviously there was little to no chance of him becoming a Jackrabbit, but SDSU offeree and Roosevelt senior OT Grant Schmidt committed to Ohio State today.

Taryn Christion from Roosevelt ran a 4.44 at the Iowa State Camp, one shouldn't be surprised if his recruitment really starts blowing up over the next few months. Also, Mikey Daniel also attended the Iowa State camp and is attending the Nebraska camp now.

Would really like to see at least one of those players end up a Jackrabbit, but sadly for us they might not get overlooked by the big boys.

I dont think Daniel will get a BCS offer, I think he ends up FCS somewhere. No clue on Christion, he may want to play in the MAC, but I am just guessing

Interesting article, but I am not impressed with his reasoning for choosing Ohio State. I bet he ends up somewhere in FCS before he graduates. I'll put a dollar on it.

My thoughts are that Daniel probably is SDSU's best chance out of the two, just because I think BCS programs might find him a step slow to play running back, but he could still end up with an offer from them if a school believes he can be a true fullback / goal line back (or maybe even as a linebacker).

In the case of Christion, I think his athleticism might be too good for one of the regional BCS schools not to take a chance on. He'll at least have MAC options to ponder, but it seems like a lot of area kids are willing to chose high caliber FCS programs over the MAC, but I have no clue of Taryn's opinion on the matter. Also, I wonder if a school doesn't offer him a chance to play QB. He isn't the prototypical size for the position or possesses elite arm strength, but I have been fairly impressed with how effective he is in the passing game and his style might fit a wide open, spread option system.

Christion will definitely have MAC and CUSA offers by signing day, I also wouldn't be surprised to see a Iowa/Iowa ST offer. Kalen Deboer is his recruiter at Eastern Michigan and Christion told Stu Whitney that he is considered a priority recruit for EMU. I also wouldn't be shocked to see offers from Wyoming and Colorado State by seasons end.

Daniel could fall into the same problem that Shay Bratland of Watertown had last year, he is already physically matured so the coaches can't do to much to body so he won't be as of must interest to BCS programs. Daniel is legitimately a beef castle, but could be limited by his height. I do know that he has been hearing from some MAC and CUSA teams as well, but nothing concrete. He has done a good job of advertising himself over that last couple of summers though hitting the Chicago and OKC Rivals Invitationals and just about every regional B10/12 team's camp as well, the guy has given himself about as much exposure as possible for a guy from South Dakota.

One other thing that will help these guys, as I've stated earlier, is that these guys plus Vinatieri and a couple of Brandon Valley guys will benefit from having BCS coaches coming and going to watch Schmidt and Farniok plus there is upwards of maybe up to 10 FCS type players in AA/AAA this year, so FCS coaches can catch multiple players at one game. This is a good year to be seen if you are a SD recruit.

Not to hijack this thread, but here is a quick rundown of current and future SD BCS players ...

Tom Farniok (SFW) is going to be a SR Center at Iowa State. He will be drafted this year and could go anywhere in between rounds 3-7 depending on how he plays.

Derek Farniok (SFW) is going to be a JR at Oklahoma, if all goes well he will be starting at one of the Tackle spots for the Sooners.

Matt Vandeberg (BV) is going to be a SO at Iowa, if he doesn't start he will be in the WR rotation for the Hawkeyes.

Nate Gerry (SFW) is going to be a SO at Nebraska, he got some starts last year at LB for the Huskers but has been moved back to his natural S spot this year. He was running with the 1's this spring so look for him to either start or be in the backfield rotation.

                                Recruits...

Grant Schmidt (SFR) OT commit to Ohio State

Brady Reiff (Parkston) DE commit to Iowa

Matt Farniok (Junior at SFW) OT with offers from Iowa, Iowa St, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wazzu, and look for an Oklahoma offer in the not to distant future.
