Swagger has never thrown, caught a pass or made a tackle.

ZENNER IS A BEAST! Let me just get that out of the way!

Overall I was quite happy with the win. Yes, UND made it close at the end. The pass D could have been better and we need to put more heat on opposing QB's but let's give UND a little credit. They have a prolific passing attack that moves the ball on everyone and an All-American wideout.

For 2/3 of that game the Jacks were fantastic in all aspects of the game. That is what I take out of it. They can always get better and will need to if they want to win the NDSU game and the other big games. They will make the corrections and look forward to seeing them play this Saturday. The play calling got a little conservative when they had the big lead but overall was pretty aggressive. That was my big beef last year. Thought it has been much better through two games.

Bring on the folks from Louisiana!

One more thing about Zenner, doesn't seem like he is seeing holes better this year? Last year it seemed like at times he would run just where the play was called, this year he is letting the play develop more. Also his touchdown catch and run was such a thing of beauty....he embarrassed the entire UND defense that play. If UND didn't have fast db's Zenner would have had 4-5 long touchdown runs.

Speaking of that catch and run...

I was limited to following the game on my phone and somewhat on WNAX. I'm curious if Cam Jones was targeted at all? Did they focus a linebacker on him instead of Zenner? Some stats to ponder:

I still think when you have as much success with running the ball as we have with Zenner, that you could be very effective with play-action pass. That zone behind the linebackers should be open when they have to focus so much on shutting him down. With Cam's size, he can easily overmatch a safety.

Maybe we're saving all our "Cam packages" for conference.

I hope. Dude's a stud. Get him the ball!

Sumner will be better, has to be. There is no way teams can't key on ZZ and pack the box with 9 guys. If this week isn't spent working on the short passing game and kick return game it could be tough on Saturday. Zenner can't run for 300 yards and score 4 TDs every game. Can he?

Just a question? How do you expect Sumner to be better when all they do is throw on third and long? They never throw on first or second down, would that not be idealistic to throw a play-action pass on one of those downs. I get Zenner is a beast but if you only rely on the passing game in long down attempts then there isnt much that can be accomplished. You have to allow your quarterback and receiver to get in a rythm. You cant be conservative especially when playing Nebraska and NDSU because if you are they are going to punish you. Why not put more emphasis on creating a passing game along with your running game?

They did try throwing on a few early down plays in the 4th quarter. It just didn't look like Sumner was finding a short route, seemed to be looking down field too much. Jacks needed a sustained drive, 10 or more plays, several first downs, not a big hitter down field. Granted there were a few drops in there and a few good looks where Sumner just missed. I don't Austin was sharp in the 2nd half and that is okay. I expect he will be great again Saturday.

I agree but thats the fourth quarter. That after you almost allow them to come all the way back after being down 35-14. You cant be one dimensional, generic, and have a playbook like the Minnesota Vikings haha.

Agree, difficult to have that balance every week. Great balance against an overmatched Butler team. Problem, there are no more Butlers on the schedule. Jacks went 1-0 and now are 2-0. Biggest game of the year is this weekend against SELA. A 3-0 start will take a us A LONG WAY towards a playoff bid.

It's amazing what Zenner was able to make out of that play, considering how he was pinned up against the sideline on a short field. Crazy moves.

About Sumner, he definitely missed a couple of open recievers in that second half. I recall at least one ball sailing high over an open receiver, reminiscent of many scenes last year. He was 2 of 9 for 29 yards passing in the second half. That is Tebow-like and the fact that it happened when Zenner is in the backfield is stunning. However, if Schneider would not have dropped that easy 3rd down pass late in the 4th quarter, we probably would not have spent nearly so much time discussing the way this game ended.

I'm looking forward to dicussing a new opponent!

I think the SDSU coaches hope you think exactly like our future opponents. After much contemplation over the first 2 games, my educated guess is that our playbook and playcalling was intentionally vanilla considering the caliber of our opponents. I think (I hope) we are saving some and are really going to mix it up when it comes time to play the big boys and for conference play.

I'm not losing faith yet, but if we want to talk "championship caliber" football we need to play "championship caliber" football.

Nice blocking by #66, Trevor Greger, on that play as well. He chipped the end, and then went on to pancake the DB. Good Stuff.
