I don't understand the angst in this thread. Its the 21st century, learn how to hook your computer/xbox/ps3 to your TV. Get a smartphone or iPad and watch it on there. Find a local bar that understands how to turn on a computer and watch it there (Cubbys is a good choice for those in Brookings).

The FCS and teams playing probably get as much or more exposure by having the games on ESPN 3 than they would on a local network. And ESPN makes ALOT more money by charging ISPs for content than end users. They have to provide content on that "channel" to make that work.

I might take in a couple additional games played on the east or west coast. Would that be a reality without ESPN? Nope.

I might watch the national championship. Would that be a reality without ESPN? Nope.

Take the good with the bad, IMO.

I agree with your concept but South Dakota is so rural base and has many towns, cities, villages or other dwellings where you don't have the option of who your cable provider is, and many of them don't have ESPN 3. That is the problem with ESPN 3, it blocks the game to much of South Dakota's audience. Now I agree with you that sending a couple of 100 angry emails is just wasting time. I think the way to get it fixed is through the conference, FCS and NCAA.

The issue isn't so much that you have to watch it online (though some people who live in the country still have crappy Internet speed and don't have an option to upgrade). The problem lies in that not all Internet/cable service providers carry ESPN3 and ESPN doesn't give the customer and option to purchase, all they do is say "call your service provider and ask for EsPN3." This sucks because some customers don't have multiple providers to choose from.

I don't have cable. If it weren't for ESPN3, the game would be blocked to me...

Cable companies don't make it available because they don't think enough of their customers want it.

ESPN wants as many cable companies (ISPs) as possible to sign up for their service. They want to create consumer pressure on the cable companies to buy their product. Do you think taking blocks of content that quite a few people are interested in and putting it exclusively online would do that? The Fargo cable company doesn't offer ESPN3. Wanna make a bet they offer it in the next 6 months?

This also happens on a larger scale with standard cable stations. Fox News wants to charge more for their broadcast, Dish Network says no, consumers raise a ruckus, and an agreement is magically reached. It isn't rocket science.

Midco didn't always provide access to ESPN3. Now they do. Somewhere in between, they raised prices and created Midco Sports Net which broadcasts more local sports than ever before. Where exactly do you think the money came from to create Midco Sports Net?

If you aren't getting the games, whether you live in Fargo or Murdo, call your cable company not your conference.

Dec 1st game will be on ESPN gameplan on DirectTV. Having a voice can make a difference. Don't listen to those that say it won't and accept that it has to be the way it is.

Every fan doesn't have Midco and access to ESPN3. You cant watch on the xbox without an espn3 provider. Besides, not everyone has a smart tv or wireless access. Before espn3 came along, the fjnals and championship were broadcast on espn. And they did a better job covering it. And additionally, other providers would air the games on either statewide tv (ndsu vs robert morris first round 2010 rights were aquired by Hoak Media in Fargo) and quarter/semi finals were broadcast on Altitude and Fox College Sports. Coverage was better. I actually applaud the providers who dont give into espn and keep the rates low. How many people actually watch espn3? It wont attract casual viewers. Just hardcore fans activity looking for the game.

I wish my provider had espn3.

However glad to here it will be added to espn gameplan on direct tv.

any idea what the fee will be for that game? (hoping that we make it?)

                            Here here.

We live up in the mountains of Colorado and have access to one internet provider (CenturyLink/Qwest) and one TV provider (DirectTV). We can't get ESPN3 since neither our ISP or TV provider support it. This isn't Midco were or Joe Bob Cable TV in Coon Rapids we are talking about here. We are talking about two of the largest internet/tv providers in the country. How many others out there are exactly like me? The NCAA and ESPN are screwing over the FCS schools by allowing/having ESPN3 as the sole provider of 1st round coverage.

Off my soapbox, I'll just follow the Argus chat with TV.

My only options in Fargo are Cableone(one of the worst companies in America) or Centurylink, neither has ESPN3 so I'm stuck as well. I have heard from a friend who does some work with Centurylink that ESPN won't even negotiate with them in regards to ESPN3.

I hate how ESPN ties it in with ISPs when other cable TV networks like HBO, Cinemax, the Big 10 Channel, etc tie internet content in with your TV provider.
