Too many late hit penalties on the Jacks... but I'll be honest, 3 of them were very dubious. The one on Luxa on the sideline early in the game was completely ridiculous.

I guess the refs were trying to keep the game "under control", it being a rivalry game and all.

The Yotes scrambling quarterback was tough to get after... not a great passer...but very elusive. As much as the U fans complain about him... he kept alot of plays alive, that wouldn't have been without his scrambling.

One Question for anyone else on the East side of the field... there was a dude on the Coyote sideline. No idea who he was. He was a tall, pretty big guy in jeans, a white shirt, and red stocking hat. Had a goatee too. Dark Hair. No idea who he was... not a coach...mostly stood behind the little barriers down around the 20 yard line or so...

He was very obnoxious... on the previously mentioned Luxa late hit... he went running over to the ref at the sideline, screaming and hollering, and gesticulating wildly...and then the flag came out. He got a high five from a player on his way back to his spot.

In the second half...when winston wright broke up a pass in the endzone near the sideline... this dude was there...just out of bounds... by the endzone! And then he started talking crap with with Winston. I saw it clear as day. (my seats were around the 10 yard line on the South end). Not sure who he was, or what his capacity is, or why he was down there.. but perhaps the U should keep people like that off their sideline.

Besides him, and the blocked punt, the only other negative of the day were the four overweight USD fans standing on the South End of the bleachers... who kept making "First Down" chants, in the second half, and being generally loud and belligerent... trying to get noticed. My wife had to tell me several times to stop looking at them. Very annoying. They were quite certainly, the exception rather than the rule, as I sat near several USD fans, who were all perfectly fine...cheered when they did well, and even admitted a few of the late hit calls on the Jacks were "gifts".

Great day, great win, and USD gets an 0-fer in their first year in the conference. Welcome to the big time, puppies.
I saw that guy on the video broadcast on the internet and wondered who the heck he was. Think he was also wearing a yote jersey. He would stand by the fence and when any ref or Jack was near him he would get in their faces and then retreat back to the fence. If he was a fan he should have been moved by the po po back behind the fence, there was another guy with him but he just cheered the other guy on. If he was a former player he should have been near the team not there. If he is a current athlete he should have been with the team. If he is associated with the team he should have been with the team or thrown out and 15 yd unsportsmanlike conduct penalty awarded the Jacks.

Your attendance was not what you hoped for but still quite respectable. Plus, it was the rifle deer opened for SD which probably affected the attendance number too?

And the better team won. A few observations I am going to make after seeing every game but one. First of all, the officiating in this league flat out sucks. Yesterday was a complete joke. SDSU got screwed big time twice, and we got the rubber weanie twice. The roughing the QB call against you was horrible. The pass interference call against us where you got the field goal was horrendous. There were numerous times both teams got away with holding calls that did affect the results of the play, then they would turn around and call holding on a player out of the picture. I have not seen a good crew of officials all season. Then in the middle if the third quarter I saw one of your fans throw an empty pint booze bottle onto the field in an attempt to hit a player or coach. I pointed him out to the SDSU kiddy cops on the sideline as I saw it, yet they did nothing. They did retrieve the empty bottle, but that was it. Your fans support your team with a great deal more vigor than ours, I give you that. And also I was overall impressed with the interaction between the fans. I went for a stroll to find JackJD and KULawJack and the reception in the tailgate lot was chillier the further north I went. I went to a bus where I thought KU might be and asked someone if they knew of him, or if there was a student from Kansas was with the group, and all hey did was shake their heads and as I walked way one of them said F you coyote. But that's about all that happened. I wished I had met you two,I did try. In closing I walked away with mixed emotions. Needless to say that first quarter was perfect for you and devastating to us. You can play the what if games over in your mind, such as our first play Powell had your secondary beat 10 yards and that would have tied the game. But even I don't cry over spilled milk. We missed the pass, and the game is what it is. I just don't think the gap between the two is all that wide, but there is a difference. I hope you make playoffs and represent our state well. Congrats on the win.
I have to agree Yoteforever, the gap between the 2 schools isn't nearly as large as we would like to believe it is. Other than a couple of bad showings against NDSU and Indiana State you guys were more than respectable in all of your games. Sorry about your tailgate experience, while a good natured ribbing is to be expected, disrespect isn't. Just goes to show that idiots attend and support both Universities.

Don't get me wrong I had ALOT of fun. I enjoy the bantering and abuse (if not I wouldn't be here). My point I was trying to make in a non-smack way was that there are fans on both sides that don't know their limits. I have been beat up before a couple years back when most posters didn't want the rivalry renewed because of USD fan behavior. Going back to yesterday, as I said, I had a blast. Most people were either having fun with me or didn't say squat. Sometime I would like to open a thread about your tailgating rules, regs, etc. these kiddy kops are something else. They are just looking for trouble. But let's discuss that when your season is over. Good luck today on selection Sunday

I for one was disappointed in the crowd as well. I think the media scared some people away by continuing to talk up the huge number expected. I think some people simply did not want to put up with a huge crowd and stayed away.

USD had a minimal crowd and trying to avoid smack they had to be disapointed in their support. In fact the Coyote nation was merely a Coyote den. But, I can also support that fact that the average fan is simply not going to travel and support a 1 win team......

Some are saying that there is not that much of a difference between the two teams? I disagree.......Its a significant difference as far as I am concerned. This game was never contested and the Jacks had their way.

Agree with all of that. I know of several people that stayed away because they didn't want to deal with a large crowd.

I thought the difference in the quality of the two teams was obvious.

                    Re: Usd-ii gdt

There's no way to underestimate the price of a $40 ticket. That is not a price a casual fan is going to pay...especially if they have a house full of kids. Strange comment from Stig after the game who said, when talking about attendance, that the stadium wasn't filled. So, if I understand right, having 15,500-plus in a stadium with capacity of 11,000 isn't full? At any rate, if I thought I would have to pay $40 for the prospect of watching the game on a video screen behind some bleachers, I certainly wouldn't show up.

Great, great work by the D even if they continue to play off too far on pass coverage on the line. I also thought Austin and Zenner and the O line looked sharp. Out punt team, now through the regular season, remains an abject disaster. As for the personal fouls, most of them (though not all) were complete bunk calls. The officials were rightfully booed repeatedly. And I say that as a guy who is generally defensive of officials. Can't fathom why we kicked a field goal with eight seconds left before half when we had a time out. Poor coaching decision.

There is a difference between these two programs. I expect Glenn will fins that problem quickly, but you don't finish winless in conference play by accident even if you do play some close games. And you don't finish second by accident, either. On offense, we do not string together complete games, no question about that. But as for yesterday, you can say that it was a 10-8 margin after the first quarter, but it was a dominating first quarter...21-0...and that changes so much of the rest of the game. I know one USD fan who keeps talking about how theywon the second half. Good for you, if that's what you want to hang your hat on, I guess. But the final was the final...31-8.

Had a good time doing a bit of tailgating. And everything was calm and fun post-game, too, when I went downtown. On a very serious note, does anybody know what happened to the man who was hauled away by ambulance from the Back Yard before the game? They were working on him frantically, doing CPR for quite some time. It was scary to watch. Anybody know what happened there? Hope it ended well.
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game any, but USD had a for sure TD on their first play the game but the QB over-threw it hardcore. They ran the double TE single back set, fake option pullback throw that they ALWAYS ran the first play of the game when Wes B. was the QB and Logan was the RB.

First thing I heard when I went tailgating was how ridiculous $40 tickets were. Also, I hate hate hate going to games that big at CAS. Atmosphere is great, but the viewing experience is not pleasant. Combine those two with rifle deer opener and that is how you don't get a record

Viewing from the west side stands, it sure did not look like there was standing room left for even an extra 1,000 fans. They certainly would not have had any kind of decent viewing experience. I think the $40 ticket worked out well as the stadium was full with about all it could (comfortably) handle.

USD didn't bring many fans. A few hundred, maybe. They don't travel anything like Bison fans. The crowd probably was more than 90 percent Jackrabbit fans. Despite a countdown clock on the USD campus that supposedly has been ticking off days til the SDSU game for a year, and USD team talk of the SDSU game being the Coyotes' "super bowl," their fans didn't come through with much of a showing.

USD had at least 1000 and maybe 1200 at the game, in my view. I was disappointed we didn't have 17,000 SDSU fans at that game.

This is unconfirmed, but I believe the gentleman passed away a short time later. Those of you in the consulting engineering field would know him, as he was the manager of HDR Engineering's office in Sioux Falls. I don't have a name, but my understanding is that he had planned to retire at the end of the year.

Sad day for his family, I am sure. Please pray for them.

Again, this is all unconfirmed, but this is what is trickling down through the profession today.
