Kevin Schnepf, of the Fargo Form, wrote a column today on the selection committee undervaluing the strength of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Quoting Bohl, he says SDSU was the last team in. And, he says, the Bison got screwed by having to play the "third-best" team in the conference in the second round (provided we win Saturday, of course). Also some talk of finances in his column, which is good even if he doesn't seem know which team finished all alone in second (not third) in the Valley. Here's a link:

I don't think sdsu got screwed either I just don't like the chance to play a team you already played and a rivalry conference opponent as well. I think those type of things should be avoided whether the seedings match up or not. Though you better beat eastern illinois or none of this matters

I told you before the game Saturday, if you win you are in. Remember the 2nd tool I said played a factor? Geographic locations play a huge role. As much as you have bashed USD I still wish you good luck.

Come on now, YF, I was greatly impressed with WR Will Powell. I wonder where were the Jacks when this guy was a high school rectuit. To bad its not like amatuer baseball, where the winner can pick up players from the teams they eliminated. I would pick Will up in a heart beat if that rule applied to FCS football.

I want to know who is failing at the MVfC level. The #2 team doesn't get a bye, actually is the 2nd to last getting in, and the reward for winning the 1st round game is playing the winner of your conference. It is the conference leaders job to lobby on behalf of the conference and get us placed in the best spot possible.
The committee obviously thought better of Illinois State, but the reward was to put them at App State? We are lucky we get a home game, we can keep the momentum. Win, take care of business, and we will get another shot at that b*tch Mama Bison.

Will is a good player, the definition of a possession receiver, his dad was really friendly when I tailgated with him at the USD-NDSU game. I'm guessing SDSU looked at him, but the word I heard was it was always USD or big time for him. You win some you lose some, you just hope you win more then you lose and your wins are bigger then your loses. That goes for all areas of life, including recruiting for college athletics.

The problem at the end of the day is the system, not the selections committee or the conference chair, but the system. In a system where geography and bids means more then fair competition this is what happens. If the first team out would have made a better bid then SDSU would they have been selected? Quite possibly. Its just the system and its hard to fix without hurting on the money side of the equation. At the end of the day though is SDSU doesn't beat Eastern Illinois it doesn't matter.

The major thing I think should be looked at though and I think is fix able rather easily is that conference opponents cannot meet each other until at least the 3rd round. (unless 5 teams from one conference advance), which I find highly unlikely.

The Bison lost in the semis two years ago, and won the dang title last year, and their second round draw is every bit as bad as SDSU's. Maybe worse.

This sucks for both teams. Obviouly it's a rivalry game. It's a tough matchup for SDSU but Bison fans are pissed too. It's really sad that they you guys got the last spot available. Still the MVFC gets no repect. I was hoping we would play each other in Texas, like the year we played the Yotes for the Championship. Not a flippin' 2nd round game. You shouldn't even be playing this Saturday. We will never get the respect. **** I was hoping we'd get the Wagner/Colgate as a "warmup game." Oh well, it is what it is. It's going to be another epic battle.

It still amazes me that the Jacks now have more playoff appearances in the D1 than they did all of the D2 era.

I don;t think ity is a lack oif respect. I think it ahs muc more to do with economics, bids and travel. Many of the schools out east do not relish paying for a 1500 mi trip in the first round.

The NCAA pays for the travel...so it's not on the schools. Plus, all of these teams charter flights. Honestly, how much more does it cost to charter a flight 1200 miles versus 600 miles?

I guess SDSU has to take the bus and leave the driving to US(NCAA Selection committee). If we win Saturday its on to Fargo, but we saved the NCAA some dollars.

I think NDSU got screwed worse than us here. They have to face a team that was (probably) 3 points away from taking the MVFC autobid away from them and maybe even getting a seed. To win it all, we have to face the Bison sometime in the playoffs anyways. At least it saves us fans some money, I am saving potentially a thousand bucks by going to a home game and then making a drive to Fargo rather than flying out to App. State or Eastern Washington or Montana State or something in the 2nd round.
