  • Re: ISU Sycamore GameDayThread

Exactly! Now we know that we have a good, fast, hard-hitting defense again. Zenner is a stud, the o-line is getting healthy. I'm just incredibly worried about both punt units and Sumner's thumb. Going 6-19 or whatever he was today is not acceptable, wind or no wind. Thank goodness our o-line can runblock so well and that we have two strong running backs. Will Sumner be able to make the throws when someone stops our run game and we need him to step up? You would think with the running game clicking so well it would open up the play action game, but so far that hasn't been the case. I wonder how much longer it will take before he is back to full strength? As far as the punt return unit, I am merely hoping that they don't lose us the game. Eventually special teams may come back to haunt us. Overall though I am really excited for these next two home games, especially with Parker and Fick coming back, and for us to hopefully be 5-1 before getting into the real meat of our schedule!

Count me as someone who's still wondering about the defense. State needs to face a multi dimensional team who can run with a good QB. Definitely improved but still a lot of work left.

NoVaJack used the term PrettyGoodTryers in one of his posts. The term struck my funny bone. After today, we are on a much higher level. I like the growing momentum. Sumner and thumb are still not 100 per cent. Rollin seemed be well covered by ISU and did not show his stuff today. I guess what does concern me as in the days of Ranek, the opponent stacked 8 in the box and dared us to run, and TM said as one of post game comments that we have to have Sumner do much more in racking up passing yards. Maybe we dont have a real Punt return guy. Jason Scheider might be the best for now, but one of the do to thing is for Coach Stig to find a punt return guy. There are some good ones out there.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't start seeing Kool returning punts and kicks. We need to start getting the ball in the hands of some playmakers.

Impressive win for you guys! Keep it going until you get to Fargo! Good luck! You guys should feel pretty good right now and I think you will new ranked.

Didn't see the rushing attack coming together this quickly after last season! Looking forward to seeing your two offensive super sophomores in person! Hope Sumner gets healthy.

What changed with your defense this season?

Just watched TV's presser videos. Trent Miles is an outstanding guy. I will cheer for Indiana State every game except when the play the Jacks from here on out. I know it is only one interview, but I don't think I could say enough good things about the guy if that is how he always carries himself.

I watched, too, and I sure agree. I think it's safe to say he takes his hat off too us, eh?

In the presser, Kravitz asked Zenner how he and the D stopped Bell. Then he kept asking that Heisman question so he wouldn't have to completely change his approach and write about something else. The Heisman question came completely out of the blue and you could tell that Zenner and Stig were surprised that anyone would ask it. Clearly, neither of them had ever given it a second of thought. Meanwhile Kravitz was tweeting repeatedly about Bell's bad day and how it messed up his plan.

I realize that Indy Star readers don't give a darn about SDSU or ISU. Two seconds of research would have told Kravitz that Bell's 359-yard effort was against a very poor, non-scholarship team and as such was pretty meaningless. The Heisman angle was a silly stretch to begin with. If you want to tell an interesting story about FCS football, introducing it to Indy readers who probably only focus on Purdue, Notre Dame, and IU, there are plenty of stories out there to tell. Obviously Kravitz just wanted to "discover" a sleeper Heisman candidate.

The defensive line was killed with injuries last year. Also, the secondary was very young. State basically lost a recruiting class from attrition and depth was/is an issue yet. But it's much improved. Still haven't seen a good passing and running attack yet though. Lots to prove yet.

Kravitz was a writer in Denver for the paper while I was out there, can't remember if it was the Denver Post or the Rocky Mountain News. What I do remember is that he always played the antagonist role in his columns. He is definitely a "glass is half empty" type of guy.

To take a story that is kind of a reach and promote it as gospel is just the way he of operates. For a columnist of his tenure, I assumed he would have matured beyond that.
