Re: The Piece of History We All Witnessed This Past Saturday!!!
This is real ancient but takes nothing away from Zenner. SDSU had a qb from Minneopolis about 1951 or 52 named Jerry Welch who returned a 99 yard punt agains Iowa State. I had often wanted to see the game film from that game, but AD emeritius Harry Forsythe said they had boxes of old game films that they sent off somewhere to get them on a better media, and they never got their films back. So that piece of history is gone.
A while back, I visited with a couple of his former teammates and the eyes really rolled when I brought this name up. This punt return was published in the media for several years, I have not checked to see if its still there. Apparently Welch was not the model student-athlete as he left SDSU after his eligibilty was used up.
