Yes. But can't we just celebrate the win for at least one day before calling out the coaching staff and players?

We're 3-6. We beat the worst team in our conference, but it took two overtimes. There is not much to celebrate.

You can't go for 2 in that situation and not be criticized. That was an asinine decision. Glad we won despite it. As for the rest of the criticism, people are allowed to have opinions and this forum is a place to express them. I sure hope the players and coaches aren't ecstatic about the way they played. I do hope they are celebrating the victory and looking at ways to get better before Hobo Day next week.

          A win perhaps?

Look I'm not happy with the way the team is playing or played yesterday either. I think there are issues with execution and effort. I think the coaching staff is limiting the playbook based upon real and perceived limitations in the players. My point with earlier posts is, and I am not trying to be pollyannaish, there are a few things to be happy with. IMHO calling out the coaching staff within 4 hours of a win seems a bit harsh.

I was calling out the staff during the game. I honestly believe that this team is winning despite the current staff.

I'm happy the team won. The players work hard all week, and it is nice to have them rewarded. Unfortunately, there aren't many teams in the conference that are as bad as Mo. St.

I just can't see how adjustments aren't being made on the offensive side of the ball. If they are set on keeping Kool at RB, then use his skill set. He isn't a Zenner type runner. Run some stretch plays or how about using his catching ability and run him out into patterns? I know that Stig has always preached the "boring" style of offense. Perhaps it is time for him to change because if he doesn't the AD will find someone who will. There is too much talent on this team to waste it with the same 15 plays.

Missouri St beat Western Ill and Western got killed by Youngstown yesterday. Id say Western is the worse team in the conference. Of course Western beat Southern Ill but Southern Ill beat Mo St. Id say those 3 and us are about even. Which means we could end up winning our last 3 games and finish 4-4 in conference. Of course that is looking on the positive side of things. But hey, it really could happen.

Post of the day. We have some gaps that need filling but this team does have talent, young talent. The problem seems to be a coaching staff who aren't able to adjust to the type of skill set they have on the field. As the Head Coach Stig needs to get this done and he needs to recognize there is an issue. If he doesn't, my guess is he won't be around in 2 years. That doesn't make me happy, I think he's a very good coach and an even better person but I don't see where Sell will be given a choice if some things don't change. I think the leash is getting shorter for Stig and I hope he is able to recognize that there is an issue on his staff and it needs to be addressed.

That being said, I'm very glad we pulled out a win yesterday. I also think Sumner is exactly what we thought he was, a star in the making along the lines of what we see in Wolters. I am still confused why TOB was ever named the starter this year, and it seriously makes me question the ability of Stig and his staff when it comes to making day to day decisions on personnel.

Lots of ‘positives’ to think about from yesterday’s win. Sumner put on a great show. Rollins, Hubert, Moss: highlight-film receptions. Nice running by Zenner. Everyone’s wanted Kool to run around the corner and he did that, bouncing off heavy traffic and scampering around the right side for a 12-yd touchdown. The defense looked pretty good at times and were putting licks on the Bears that we could hear on the television broadcast. Nice interception by Wise. The guys in the lines did some nice things, too.

Today, Sumner is recognized for the second time this week as the MVFC Newcomer of the Week. And, Moss is named the Offensive Player of the Week. The Sumner to Moss connection for an 80 yard TD is the longest in SDSU’s D-1 era. As memories fade with time, the written reports of this game will include references to some impressive efforts.

But yesterday a lot of us, me included, did some head scratching and complaining. One loyal Jackrabbit fan posted on this message board that it was tough watching that game (both teams). Another loyal Jackrabbit poster wrote that recurring questions needed to be submitted multiple times for “straight answers from the coach (with good explanations AND ACCOUNTABILITY)”. And, in a remarkable moment of honesty and candor, Goon writes in a post that he didn’t see SDSU’s fumble because he was getting his diaper changed (did I misread that? Message to Goon: get yourself potty trained A.S.A.P. so you can attend Hobo Day in person.)

At what point does a fan have the right to gripe and question coaching calls? Personally, I tipped over when we decided not to challenge a punt…and then, we did it a second time and that turned into a fake and a first down by the MSU Bears. JackMD, as loyal a fan and supporter of SDSU as one can find, is jokingly complaining today about a sore neck after watching the Jacks attempt – and miss -- an early two-point conversion causing the head-snapping: ‘what-heck-was-that?!’ reaction. Many fans would agree with MD on that point (or, better stated, on that failure to get a point).

Most important: We found a way to hang on and win yesterday. That alone is very positive – that’s a sign of something good in a program. There will be days when nothing goes right – and yet you hang in there and fight for the win. Missouri State was fighting for their lives at their homecoming. The game was not very pretty football but on balance there were more positives than negatives for the Jackrabbits. The program continues to be on the upswing…maybe it’s a little like two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward, one step back,…

I hope the coaches and the athletes know that even when fans get out of sorts, it’s because they want exactly what the coaches and athletes want. I think most remain on the same page. Let’s get a Hobo Day victory against a Southern Illinois team that hasn’t forgotten how to win.

                        Funny.

WNAX came in loud and clear in Dickensen ND, yesterday. Also listened on 1060 AM in Pierre. What was I doing in Dickensen? Attending a fund raiser for the DSU rodeo team which includes a grandson of my significant other. My car radio has a good antenna, and I sank and swam with the SDSU football team all afternoon long through 2 OT's. Seems like we had problems with those slant passes again. Had we stopped them short slant passes, we never would have went to OT.

How did the fund raiser go? Real well, run similar to the Stan Marshall auction. Jim Thompson the SD rodeo announcer and has a radio show from Spearfish was the MC. I believe he does the Desmet Mutual Insurance commericals also. This was the first time I have seen him in person. He has a face for radio. A great voice however, one you could listen too all day.

Also has a real rare steak for dinner. I am digressing, but lets stay on the win trail for the next three games and carry a win streak into 2012.

Well, that game set college football back about 50 years. Two teams that just aren't very good. If you watched that game and weren't scratching your noodle or shaking your head about ever 60 seconds, you weren't following along. The win covers up some bad plays and some very bad decision making. The special teams were brutal...I mean positively brutal. The fake punt, the decisions to go for two, the trick kick deal. By the way, Stig's post-game quote on the first two-point conversion was, "That's what the card said." Really? He also called the decision to run out the clock at the end of regulation "perfect." Now, maybe that's what you do, but to call it perfect is just foolish. It was nice to see us use the play-action pass. See how well it can work? Again, Sumner looked great, though he had a little stretch where he struggled to find his targets. Again, Zenner is going to be a stud. I'm not quite as down on the defense as some just because they were out there almost the entire second half. They were gassed and put in bad situations with bad kicks and a fumble. At this point, I think it's clear to everybody that Sumner a better quarterback than TOB. How could the staff not see that even before the season? The guy in charge of special teams (Moore, I believe) has got to go. Now, I know there are some folks who are going to reference finances when the discussion turns to the state of our program. That is, without question, a fair point. Obviously, it is. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be concerns about some of the problems we've seen the past two seasons now. We were fortunate to get a win over a struggling program. I'll take it, but we need to make some progress ourselves.
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

The scary part is that in listening to Stig in the post game press conference he thinks it was the correct decision because it is what "the card" said to do. Are you joking Stig? What card tells a coach to go for two in the 1st half of a game. The fact that he thinks all the decsions he made during the game yesterday were the correct decisions makes me a little nervous about the future.
