  • Illinois Week

I'm just throwing this out there, LET'S GO WIN THIS THING!

It just bugs me that NDSU and USD have a win over a BCS team. Time to join the club and Illinois is our best chance this year (yeah, I know, only chance) so let's do it!

Here is a link to one of their boards and the thread about our game. Their score predictions are what I would expect from a Big Ten team's fans who don't know anything about us. That isn't to say that they may not be right, but I think if they had any idea who we were, they would probably not assume they will score 66 points.

Illinois does score a ton of points, problem is they have a tendency to give up a lot as well.

Let's hope their players and coaching staff take the Jackrabbits as lightly as their fans do. Kind of like the Huskers did last year . . .

              Re: Illinois Week

I saw that DE Austin LaBlance tweeted that he is having shoulder surgery.

I think after spring camp alot was expected from LaBlance this year but with the emergence of Doug Peete & Joe Kennedy he probably wasn't going to see the field too much besides maybe special teams.

Speaking of Peete, he really looked good on Saturday. Was applying constant pressure and was having to be held by the O-Line several times to slow him down. I also like what I saw from the JUCO/UNO transfer Hettiger. I'm not sure how he would hold up against a physical running team, but he applied good pressure from the DT position even though he is only in the 230-240 range. The front four was a present surprise and played much better than last season. They were gassed on that last drive but put on good pressure the rest of the game.

So what is the expected jackrabbit nation turnout? 1000? This will very likely be the lowest attended FBS game for various reasons with the biggest reason being the distance from home. The attendance as a whole seems that it will be light at Champaign. Let's hope the ones who show up in orange go home remembering who the jackrabbits are for a long time.

                        Re: Illinois Week

I am not sure what to expect this game. So far what I would like to see improve from last week on Offense is, Timing. There were a few plays TOB and WR were not on the same page, Mistakes like that turn into points quickly against a good team. Hope our Line can get a big push and hopefully get some quality rushing yards again so TOB does not have to pass 40 times again.

On D, just to keep D line pressure, hopefully with Bowers back and Peete as a rising star, our D line can keep it hard for them to do much. Our line backs will probably need to pick up some slack and help the DB IMO unless they learn to turn their heads and watch for the pass when they are in coverage.

Special teams, I think it might be to much to ask, but to making a frickin FG, and stop with the block in the backs on kick returns. We can't afford bad field position because of a dumb special teams penalty.

Otherwise, win our lose, I want to see a game like last year at Neb, Solid effort on both sides of the ball and the team played like a team. Just hope the results are more in our favor.

What I'd like to see is TOB's accuracy improve a little bit. This game will have to be a well thought out mixture of run and pass plays. If indeed there will be fewer passes thrown, then each one that is,becomes much more important and has to be thrown right on the money. If they keep close the first part of the game, the Illini may become frustrated and make some mistakes we can capitalize on.We have to take care of the ball, make them win by thier own efforts, don't make it easy for them by setting them up with good field position. We have a good team and i think we will compete with the Illini, if we play good , sound, football, bend don't break,... like we did at Neb.Go Jacks!
