  • Smoke for the intro?

This isn't a complaint, but more of something that I feel they really need to change for the next home game. I thought the smoke for the introduction of the team was REALLY tacky! It's not the smoke that was the issue, it was the canisters and how they did it. If they're going to do that, they really need to move those canisters inside the blowup tunnel or make something that hides them. Having them turn them on like that just prior to running on the field looked ridiculous and I heard other people say the same thing. I thought it looked like a high school game when they did that. Anyone else agree?

Sounds like the event staff may need to review some game film as well.

Me? Don't like it. Just play football, dagnabbit.

      And get off my lawn!!!

Looked fine from the student section. The entire pregame was a million times better than last year.

Agree, last year was terrible. I kind of liked the smoke. Thought it could have been a little thicker but maybe next game.

I liked the smoke too, but I just wish they would hide the canisters.

I'm guessing the smoke would have looked a little better without a 30 MPH wind blowing it all around. A calmer day would give a better effect.

I think the wind had a lot to do with how thin it was. Hiding the canisters in some way wouldn't be a bad idea.

Not smoke, fog. Likely CO2, maybe nitrogen. A little blue would hide the canisters. More humidity in the air might help the affect also. I'm with Zoo though and see at as an unnecessary distraction. You can come on my lawn though. I'll even share a homebrew.

Just wrap some blue cloth around them....the smoke was fine, wind dispersed it quickly....much much better than last year

I think they should get a pyro specialist and have fireworks and make it look like a WWE wrestler is coming in....

I didn't see it, but like the idea of something new.

Unnecessary distraction? For the team? Good lord.

It's smoke people! Who the **** cares. If our players are distracted by smoke/fog/Zooropa lecturing people in the stands (I assume he does this), then we are in a lot of trouble.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I don't get where smoke is a distraction of any sort. Now maybe my fireworks scheme that I was talking about would have been. You can be against it and say it looks dumb, or that its cheesy or that you just don't like that type of thing. But don't say it is a distraction. If the smoke out of the tunnel is a distraction then I'm guessing the new bleachers, Dykhouse Center, new uniforms, fans, coaches, opposite team, and everything else in Brookings is also a distraction.

The "smoke" like previously said was probably CO2 or nitrogen. Its a "fog-machine" souped up a bit. I didn't see the intro personally but have seen events where they are used and sometimes they look cool and sometimes they look cheesy. Do agree that a blue tint would make it look good.

zoo would not do this, I would though, but dont want to distract the team. The smoke idea is good idea. They do it at the Fab Fargo Shed. So why not us? The new Uni's look good might have been just the motivation to make the play that third generation Jack Dirk Kool made to save the game. I never seen father Mark play, but remember him as an assistant coach. Grandpa Marvin goes back to the early 1950's may have seen him play if he played in 1953. I do remember reading about Marvin Kool in the Brookings Register. He passed away a couple years ago and no doubt was smiling at his grandson when he made the big play.

                              1. The smoke isn't a distraction. I just called it smoke because I didn't know what it was.

                              2. I think it's a good idea, but they way they presented it looked extremely tacky. It needs to be subtle. Hide the canisters.
