too bad the guy can't pick up the second or third option. he locks in, defense reads it and the play is over.

"shotgun," "pistol," "West Coast,' .... Woody Hayes is spinning in his grave.

Can you win in this conference without a solid running game first?

Nevada was the first team in history to have 3 1,000 yard rushers in a single season using the pistol.

I think it will work for running the ball.

It sounds like the way to go. Lets hope Coach Stig is buying into this and is willing to take a chance. We definitely needs some new looks on offense.

The thing that worries me, and TV did report this, that it is just another "wrinkle" we are adding to the offense.

Not sure if I'm for that or not. It changes timing on passing plays, and if we "only" run out of it, teams will start to T off on it.

You mean they didn't T off on our run game before?

That's one season and one example. Here's another. Last spring, UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel instituted the offense during spring practice. Here is an excerpt from a story after the spring game. "Chow" is Norm Chow, UCLA offensive cordinator.

"Pistol whipped," "gun controlled" and "shooting blanks" were accurate portrayals when the offense, pioneered by Nevada Coach Chris Ault, sputtered through the Bruins' spring game.
"I've been called a lot worse things," Chow said, then added, "How about if it works?"

Did it get better? Not really. UCLA went from 7-6 and bowl eligible in 2009 to 4-8 and ninth in the PAC 10 in '10. It scored 20.2 points a game last season, as opposed to 22.0 in '09. UCLA had five fewer first downs and 1,200 fewer yards passing last year than it did the year before, although it did have about 600 more yards rushing, but still averaged under 200 yards a game.

I have zero faith in our offensive scheme, gameplan and execution.

I think the team is best suited to go to the play calling it had a few years ago before the O cordinator went to colo state. That was a balance and effect time and the execution was excelent.

Maybe Ryan Berry and JaRon Harris have eligibility left, too.

We had one of the best running backs in the history of SDSU and couldn't win the conference. I, for one, hope that putting in a different offense will allow this team to open things up.

Watching this offense the last year and a half was brutal. I know that Kyle was good, but god, how about we run a sweep or two. Maybe now that we have a back with break-away speed we will see that again.

Hopefully we will attack the edges a little more with our running game- Kool is no doubt faster than Minnett but probably lacks the toughness which Kyle had on our inside running plays. A sweep or 2 would be nice to see and hopefully we don't run the flare pass 25 times a game!!!!!!

Or tight end in motion every play. all it does is show which side they are running too.

I cannot agree more. Our motion was completely useless, defenses didn't even move by the end of the year. I read somewhere that the pistol would not be our primary offense, but would be a "wrinkle". As long as it give some type of creativity where a defense has to react to us rather than us reacting to them all the time.
