Nick Mears was named class 11A player of the year.

Mr. Mears led Milbank to their only 11A State Football Championship in 2009 as a sophomore. During his career he played basically every single play except for kickoffs so although his stats are offensive related he did play in the secondary. If tackle statistics were kept in Milbank, he would probably be near the top of that list as well.

Mr. Mears runs a 4.5 40 yard dash, has a 4.1 pro agility, power cleans 280 lbs, and has a 32 inch verticial. Do not let his size fool you. He is very athletic.

However; his best attribute is what is between his shoulders. Mr. Mears has a GPA of 4.0 and is ranked no. 1 academically in his class. He loves studying game film.

Great can we play Farnof at DE where we can bulk up that line. Sounds like he is a pretty good defensive player. We never seem to have a shortage of Big OL's. Our DL could use some size.....

I'd rather have two committed players than someone sitting on the fence wishing they could go somewhere else.

Didn't see this posted here, but it appears the DJ Hebert has narrowed his choices down to SDSU, Northern Iowa and Northwestern (offers from SDSU and UNI). Everyone else has been downgraded to low interest.

I have seen him play and he is a very good athlete. Would be a good recruiting win......

Great find JoeBoo, Peugh comes from the same JUCO as David Godley came from last season.

Great news on Mears, I assume he'll play safety for the Jacks. Which is interesting considering that 3 South Dakota players have verbaled so far and they are all projected as Safeties.

What players from SD have verbaled to DI schools so far?

I know these 2, but didn't USD get a couple early in the season? I looked on their board and couldn't find anything.

    SDSU - Nick Mears, 5-11 190, Milbank
NDSU - Andy Smith, 6-0 185, SF Roosevelt

    From TV's Twitter:

"SDSU has its first football verbal: Nick Mears, a 5-11, 190-pound safety from Milbank. He's a two-time all-state pick. Played QB and DB."

I saw this kid play a couple of times... he's a pretty solid runner. I don't think he'll be a QB, but he'll be a good DB or LB.

I grew up on a farm too, but have often wished I had taken a chance in that occupation especially with current commodity and land prices. Its not a stretch. You have spoken for yourself and assume everyone thinks like you do. I realize you are from Vermillion but by now you have had sampled some of the good ice cream on campus. SDSU is where you learn to make ice cream and other goodies, and they don't offer this training at USD.

Yes its called Dairy Manufacturing and people have been very sucessful with a degree in Dairy Science from SDSU, often these people will never have to step in a cow pie again especially if they occupy the top floor at a multination corporation like Kraft Foods and are the CEO. This is why I suspect there is interest in SDSU by the Zemlicka twins. One of my classmates did make it to the top at Kraft Foods btw.
    A Quote from the article:
Lonnie Zemlicka runs a dairy farm in the Waverly area, and even today, Tyson and Taylor are up at 5 in the morning milking cows.

Tales of small-town football standouts finding time to wake up in the dark to help out on the family farm might be seen as a cliche, but they ring true in this case.
This is all they know from a working career to date. Father and sons seem to be very proud of their operation. Does the article mention other jobs they have held? Such as a life guard perhaps?
