  • Re: Indiana State Sycamores

Not generally a negative person when it comes to Jackrabbit football, but wow, this might be the worst defensive game I have seen in years (including Montana).

I'm sure there will be plenty of people complaining about the offense, but the fact is, the defense never gave the team a chance to win. We played "bend and then snap in half defense" all game long, and not once did we hold them to a field goal attempt when they got inside the 30. The tackling looked liked something you'd seen in a junior high game, and nobody filled the obvious running lanes even when they were in position to do it (mostly because they were running through the line with their heads down and their bodies out of position to adjust to directional changes).

Looking at the stat sheet one may see the defense getting credited for forcing 2 turnovers, but the reality both were unforced, as the ISU QB just dropped a couple snaps.

Congrats to Indiana State though, they were clearly the best team on the field today.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

Not much left for us to spoil. We've played the top of the conference already. Need to grab the Dakota Marker now.

Kemo, you are dead on. Offense did plenty enough to win that game.

Well winning the Marker in Fargo would help at least.

Last I checked NDSU is still very much in the playoff hunt although they can't slip up once in the remaining three games, win out and NDSU is 8-3 and that will be good enough to get an invite to the playoffs. So IF NDSU were to win next week against SIU, I'd say your roll as spoiler is alive and well. Wow, Marker game and spoiler game, dang, last time NDSU was in that position against the Jacks it didn't turn out to well for the Bison although playoffs weren't an option. Anyway, hope it all plays out and the Bison-Jacks game has a lot on the line.

This is a very common affliction amongst Bison fans as well. I've never understood it.

WTF... is all that can be said about this game. This season for that matter.

Players/Coaches, this season is not acceptable, period.

didn't watch the game, was at a pitiful BHSU-Tech game that I should of never went to.

One thing I think needs to be taken for notice is what a few high D-I FBS transfers can do for a program.

Caught the post-game interview, sounded like a pretty bad game all the way around, but the defense was the biggest problem.

Fouch at QB is a dandy, and those two turnovers might have been because of the concussion he suffered in Fargo on the second series of that game. The Sycomores are a different team without Fouch. I am beginning to think that reason the Bison beat them in Fargo was because Fouch was on bench and if he had not played yesterday, the Jacks might be still be thinking playoffs. I know our Bison fans who frequent here might take issue with these comments, but no doubt Fouch is their engine.

He might have had concentration problems when he dropped those two snaps. Big opportunities for the Jacks that we failed capitialize on. Funny part was that he threw into coverage a couple time and managed to find his target receiver. That shows real skill.

Disappointing effort by the defense yesterday. I'm not pinning this on TOB, but I'm sure he knows he has to get a lot better. Teams seem to be daring us to pass and, at times, we can, but it's an inconsistent part of the offense. I think it's worthwhile to remind ourselves again that he's just a sophomore and has probably played more than any sophomore QB in the program's modern history. Ryan Berry struggled until he was a senior. I'm betting that with Austin Sumner on his tail, TOB will work as hard as anybody to get better.

The defense deserves most of the blame for yesterday's loss. ISU-B has some talented offensive players, but we didn't stop any part of their offense yesterday. They threw and ran it at will. The two or three times we actually got pressure on Fouch, his passes were off target. But that didn't happen nearly enough. I'm afraid our D-line (without Basham) has become a major weakness. I noticed that coaches were trying pretty much every combination they could yesterday, to no effect.

It's not the end of the world. SDSU still has a winning record to play for, and the Dakota Marker to keep. We have seen many young players getting snaps this season and that bodes well for the future. It's a shame that the seniors will go out on a shaky season, but that doesn't diminish what they have done for this program. We're still not quite the kind of program that can compete for a conference title every single year, apparently. I think we will be, but maybe just not as quickly as most of us thought.

My hope is that the fans can remember that it's 1-0 every week and show up to those last two home games. I think Kyle Minett, Cole Brodie and the rest of the seniors deserve good crowds as they wrap up their outstanding careers.
                        Holy nutmeg!

I got a chance to watch the game and I have to pin the loss of this game squarely on the coaches. Our defense looked woefully unprepared for what Indiana State was going to do, missing reads, missing keys, etc. The boys looked FLAT yesterday. Once again, poor, poor tackling. It looks as if it takes us the entire 1st half to figure out what they are doing so we can make an adjustment. Indiana State on the other hand knew what we were going to do the entire time. They knew when we were going to blitz, and called it perfectly time and again. This screams poor preparation to me.

On offense, we out coached ourselves. They could not stop the Flash, not at all. We get buried deep in our half of the field in the 2nd half, after we actually stopped them. They call a dive to Duffy (2 yards), pass (broken up) pass (almost picked). We punt, they get the ball and subsequently score. I know the Flash is not our base offense, but if they cannot stop it, why go away from it, especially when you need some room deep in your own half. Run it a few times, get a first then you can go back to mixing your offense. Their announcers were just amazed that we weren't running the flash. Heck they were almost giddy we weren't running it.

This is the 3rd time this year they have looked this way: Delaware, Illinois St and now Indiana State. All games we got scored on early and our offense had to dig out of a hole immediately.

It is the coaches jobs to get the boys ready in all areas, from the outside looking in, they failed the players this week. Indiana State is vastly improved but we all know this isn't a game we should lose, we are better than they are.

I'm pretty sure Fouch played the whole game against NDSU. He threw the ball 47 times. He looked pretty solid against us, but most of his throws were comeback routes where the receivers settled in the pockets of our zone defense. We had no pressure in the first half and he was picking us apart. From about the 2nd quarter on, we started getting to him and he was a completely different QB when he got hit. Then in the second half he got beat up pretty bad. It kinda reminded me of the last time the Jacks were in Fargo with Berry and Crawford (however, i've already forgot how the game ended)

I was shocked to see you guys lose this one. Considering your defense has been solid the past couple of years, esp your front seven. The valley is an interesting conference this year. It seems every team is very up and down. Look forward to seeing some Jackrabbit fans in fargo in two weeks.

You are absolutely correct, Fouch did play most of the game which makes me wonder where I got my wires crossed. Fouch looks real good when he is not challanged and apparently the Bison were more ready for him than SDSU was yesterday. Pass defense coverage was excellent by what I saw on the Bohl show.

At any rate, I am watching a rerun of Bohl's show following the ISU-NDSU game and if we play like we did yesterday against ISU blue, we will have all we can do to win another game. We are going to have to get back on track this Saturday against Mo State.

I got my wires crossed in thinking that Fouch had his concussion early in the game, but after listening to TV on youtube, he said it occurred late in the NDSU game and the Bison did a good job in controlling Fouch and his receivers. Much better than we did yesterday. As others have said your pass coverage and defense was horrible yesterday.
