My point is consistent with what you said above. The photo that is available of that play shows his head in the endzone and the ball in his arm down on the goalline. And obviously there was no TD signal given, because the side judge ruled his "knee hit the ground before the ball broke the plane". The photo clearly shows that only his foot is on the ground beside his arm and the knees could not possibly have touched down. What I'm saying with this post is that the play described above was NOT the play where the penalty was called. It was where the official told Stig that he ruled the player down before the ball reached the goal line because his knee was on the ground. He was WRONG. Final post on this subject...what's done is done.

From the NCAA Rules committee action report

      "Blocking Below the Waist
The committee had an extensive discussion about blocking below the waist. There is general agreement that the current rule is overly cumbersome and complicated. Committee members will make suggestions for modification of the rule to the secretary-rules editor who will frame possible new language. This will be considered at the next committee meeting in 2011."

Could have been a game changer.... a day late and a dollar short however.
it was such a jr. high call- look at the play more closely and u can see that Mink was getting up and the guy fell over him.. It was simply cheap and the ref who called it should be totally embarassed.

That same ref called not only that flag, but the formation/procedure call(still really don't know what he called, the white-hats mic was jacked for the first quarter) that brought back the first touchdown and called Minett down at the 1 on the other two. All the same guy, all night long.
I just can't help but think...what if...and as a referee I should know better, but as a fan, I just can't, especially when you have a ton of NU fans admitting it too. It's like freakin' Dejavu(I think you all know what I'm talking about).

A sound beating of UNI at their house sure would make this guy feel better.

        Go Jacks!!

          Great game by the Jacks.

Lets take the confidence we earned down in Lincoln and carry it with us the rest of the year.

If we can hang with the Huskers, I see no reason why we can't run the table.

          And I'm being completely serious.

I agree. In my column I just finished about what I experienced down in Lincoln... the final comments were. If you are a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference Yet to face SDSU you need to be very scared, because the Jacks found their identity Saturday. Bring on UNI.

Had the dbs not blown the coverage on the pass to the tight end or commited a pass interference to give the Huskers a first down the game is changed too. Blaming the officiating vines off as sore losers. That is not how a Jackrabbit does things.

Huskers game is over. Move on. Isn't the mantra one game at a time?

A Jackrabbit also needs to stand up and call a spade a spade. If a DB blows an assignment- someone is going to let him know about it- if a Wr drops a pass someone is going to let him know about-if a ref makes a horrible call then someone needs to call him out as well!!

LINCOLN, Neb. — During Saturday’s game at the University of Nebraska, South Dakota State University football coach John Stiegelmeier’s greatest enemy — believe it or not — wasn’t necessarily the mighty Cornhuskers.

Neither was it the 85,000 fans jamming Memorial Stadium for the homecoming game. The colorful patchwork found 80,000 sporting the Huskers’ red and white compared to about 5,000 Jackrabbit faithful wearing blue and gold.

Rather, the greatest foe was something that Stiegelmeier has battled during his highly successful tenure.

He has dealt with, as he describes it, South Dakota’s huge inferiority complex.

Growing up as a sports fan in South Dakota (daughter of a coach, no less) I covered the state attending sporting events and grew up loving both participating and attending events. Over the years, I grew to become a huge SDSU fan, perhaps living in Brookings for six years was the key. Anyhow, this weekend traveling to Lincoln to take photos of the game between SDSU and UNL was a unique thrill I had never experienced before.

In all seriousness, looking at this game on the schedule I didn’t know what to expect. Part of me — the part that wears the blue tinted glasses — thought it would be a good game. The more realistic sports fan in me — especially after watching how SDSU had performed the first two games — was expecting a lopsided victory for the Huskers.....
