    The original post

I believe that 4MPH is the accepted "normal" walking pace.
I get 431 miles (Google Maps) I believe that it was stated the tip will begin the 4th and end the 18th. or 14 days. 431/14 = 30.78 miles a day avg. 31/4MPH = 7.75 Hrs per day

There you have it, the Mathematical breakdown of "The Jackrabbit Journey"
    Incredible.

Dude better bring a backup pair of shoes!

      Re: The Jackrabbit Journey

Need a little help here the next couple of days. I just sent this e-mail off to the SVP Show on ESPN Radio, in hopes that they give the Jackrabbit Journey a little love.
There's no way I can spend everyday listening to the show, so if anyone hears SVP and Ryen mention it on air, let me know!! I think it's something they would talk about, because it's very unique.

      Here's the e-mail I sent out:
      Fellas,
First time e-mailer her, but long-time listener.
Just wanted to relay this link in regards to a unique Athletic(College football) fundraiser going on here in South Dakota and thought you guys would find it interesting/amusing/nuts/etc.
Casey Hillman, former South Dakota State University football player, Husband and father of 3(I still can't believe his wife agreed to this), is planing to hoof it across the state of South Dakota(some 450 miles, by himself) over 13 days starting this Saturday in Deadwood, SD.
Casey will will arrive at Coughlin Alumni Stadium in Brookings, SD home of the SDSU Jackrabbits just in time to deliver the GameBall to the referee's at SDSU's home opener against Missouri Valley Conference(FCS) foe Illinois State on Sept 18th.
I know you guys have a little bit of a soft-spot for the small FCS college football scene and thought this would be something of interest to other listeners and a larger level.
Here's the offical link from SDSU's website:
      http://www.gojacks.com/SplashPage.dbml?SPLASH_AD_ID=118948
      Sincerely,
      Sioux Falls, SD

Not sure if they'll find it interesting enough to talk about or not, but I thought it would be worth a shot!
Like I said, if anyone hears anything post the time and date.

      Go Jacks!!

I just tuned in and they were talking about Chopped, funny but not about SD. Did they do it before?

Their version of "shortly" is longer than your (and my) version of "shortly".

            Haven't heard anything yet.

Edit - WTF. Gottlieb is on now...I swear SVP mentioned an email from SD that he'd get to "shortly".

            I never heard anything.

                  Re: The Jackrabbit Journey

I just talked to Casey who was currently 7 miles outside of Midland which will be his stop for the day. He's doing pretty well but said it's a lot harder than he expected. He's been asked 4-5 times so far by farmers if they could give him a ride somewhere (never underestimate the kindness of SDans). He has been averaging approx 10-13 hours of walking per day depending on how many miles he has to put in each day. He is currently on pair #2 for shoes, has blisters and is experiencing a lot of swelling in his ankles. Otherwise, he is holding up rather well. He has a day of rest in Pierre this weekend and is looking forward to it.

FYI: He is all alone on this thing. He doesn't have anyone waiting for him at the next town to keep him company at night and/or to make sure he actually makes it to the next town. His wife is meeting him at Pierre for his off day and then he's on his own until Arlington.

If you haven't contributed, even $10, please do so. He's busting his hump, literally, in an effort to make SDSU athletics a little money. The link can be found earlier in this thread. Make sure you put in the "notes" section that it's for the Jackrabbit Journey so the credit gets to the appropriate area.

                  Thanks!

                    Thanks!

Thanks for the info MJA!! I donated the other day, but didn't put the "Jackrabbit Journey" in the comments section. Hopefully they can track it to this walk.

This a cool thing that Casey came up with and I hope it not only raises money for SDSU athetics, but shows SD that SDSU has some passionate fans and former FB players/athletes. I know how much SDSU means to a lot of the former "Bits"!!
I think it would be cool if it became an annual thing that a former SDSU athlete does. MJA??

Good luck Casey, can't wait to see you at the 50 yard line next Saturday!!

If you emailed Mike Burgers he'll make sure the donation makes it to Casey's Journey. It's all going to the general Scholarship fund, but with the tag for the Journey included.

I couldn't survive two week's worth of voicemails and emails to return if I tried to do the walk.

Just donated my $25 to the cause. Wish I could give him more, but the budget is tight right now with an upcoming wedding.

$25 is plenty, as stated before, even $10 is great. It takes 2 minutes and goes to a very worthy cause.

I talked to him Sunday afternoon while he was in Pierre, he said the journey is going well. He was mostly in uncharted territories while he was West River, now that he is is East River, he said it should be much easier since he won't be alone because he knows people.

I'll have a story coming out tomorrow on his journey.
