Men: Summit league champs!!!!!

SDSU's men won the Summit League Cross Country Championship today (10/31/09) at Cedar City, UT, scoring 59 points. Favored Southern Utah University, running on its home course (altitude advantage: 6,000 feet!), was second with 64 points.

The team who ran in the meet today returns intact: One junior and the rest are underclassmen.

All good points by JackJD. to beat a good team that trains at altitude at their home course is very impressive.

First conference title since the 2003 (the last year in the NCC). Unless you count the win at independent nations in 2005 as a conference title.

Thanks turkeybacon for keeping us informed and congratualtions to Rod his group. It should work for better recruits down the road. Now if we can get that indoor track facility.

Turkey meat is pretty lean, where do you get the fat to make bacon.

This is the first conference win for a men's sport in the Summit League.

SDSU was very much in the running for the commissioner's cup last year--it came down to about 2-3 places in the M&W outdoor T&F meet.

with a better all around T&F program, and a better MBB program, SDSU could win the commish's cup this year.

SDSU was very much in the running for the commissioner's cup last year--it came down to about 2-3 places in the M&W outdoor T&F meet.

with a better all around T&F program, and a better MBB program, SDSU could win the commish's cup this year.

That is very good news...it will be interesting to follow the results of the all-sport standings!

Yes, very impressive performance by the young Jacks.

Early in race SSU had the edge, but on the 2nd of 2 loops, the Rabbits moved and then battled to overcome a 1 & 4 start for SSU. Having 3 come in a row was big, as was the 5th & 6th Jacks run down the SSU's 4th runner.

The best way to run in altitude is to come in, run and leave.... Exactly what the Jacks did. Came up Friday afternoon and ran Saturday and left right after meet. Effects of altitude weren't as noticable that way.

To have 6 in front of everyone's 4th shows the depth this group has.
This helps in the total score.

Once the teams were allowed on the course the Men had a very good day to run: sunny, no wind and a bit cool.

Once the women started, the temperature was past mild and was closer to hot than comfortable running conditions. Ashley Storm ran a great race!

Congrats the the men's team & to the Coaches Rod & John on a great win.

Next up: NCAA Regionals: a 10K in Springfield, Missouri on the 14th of November.
