    Conference Meet at Cedar City

    10/31/09 Summit League Championship at Cedar City, UT

    Big advantage for the favored Southern Utah U Thunderbirds in the men's race: not only are they a very good cross country team at sea level, they're running on their home course, at altitude. I'm predicting the Jackrabbits, picked to finish fifth at the start of the season, will battle for and win the runnersup trophy. SUU will take notice because we're young and it won't be at altitude again for several years.

    The SDSU women have had some struggles this season but hope to put together their best race today. The team title is up for grabs.

    A report from Cedar City: start of the race delayed 1 hour due to frost on the course. (That report was accompanied by the editorial comment: whimpy SUU!).

    Early report of the men's race. SDSU put 6 runners in front of SUU 4th, and unofficially SDSU believes the have won. Should know official results soon.

      THIS IS HUGE NEWS IF THE EARLY REPORT IS ACCURATE. SUU competes well on the national scene (as do the Jackrabbits!).

        While waiting for confirmation of the early report...here's the opening for the pre-meet press release on SUU's website. They aren't bragging. SUU was favored to win. Looks like the Jackrabbits may have taken issue with the predictions.

        CEDAR CITY, Utah - Oct. 28 - Southern Utah cross country will be in the hunt for another conference title when the Thunderbirds host the 2009 Summit League Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. The race will be in Cedar City for the first time since 2001 when the T-Birds swept both the men’s and women’s title.

        The Thunderbirds will be favored going into the championships as the men and women each hold three of the top ten times in the conference this year. The women look especially strong with the No. 1 and No. 2 times in the conference...

              Ashley Storm was the top Jackrabbit in the women's division, finishing 4th. Great job! The team finished 5th. Southern Utah won the women's division handily.
