2021 Summit League Championships:
Rod DeHaven's Men nearly perfect-scored* the conference meet this morning at Tulsa, OK. As I am posting this message, the women's race is set to start. Oral Roberts is hosting the meet..
The Jacks finished 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 16, to repeat as conference champs.
Individual SDSU places (score five)
1. Gabe Peters (Sr.) Time: 24:33.25 (8k)
2. Ben Olson (Jr.) Time 24:38.24
3 Max Selbach (Sr.) Time 24:39.74
5. Tom Breuckman (Jr) Time 24:53.92
6. Joe. Minor-Williams (Jr) Time: 24:53.28
7, Daniel Burkhalter (Soph)
16. Mason McDonald (Soph)
24. Alex Auch (Sr)

38, Jacob Knodle (Fr)
For those not well versed in Cross Country....note a couple of points:
1. Five scorers and 6th and 7th men on the team count in "pushing" back placeholdings for a 1 through 5 counter on other teams.. If a team runs more than 7, the excess over 7 are "removed" for purposes of calculating team scoring.
2. Only 25.03 seconds separated SDSU's individual champ, Gabe Peters, and SDSU's fifth runner, Joe Minor-Williams. Great teams run in packs and lead the race (of course, running in a pack doesn't do much good if your pack isn't running well). Our team squeezes out the competition by running in a tight pack, led by the individual champ .
Team scores (Welcome to the Summit League -- St. Thomas finished second and broke up the Jack pack with a 4th place inidividual
1, SDSU 17
2. St. Thomas 46 (Individuals finished 4, 8, 9, 10, 15, 18, 19)
3. NDSU 93
4. USD 113
5. UND 117
6. WIU 195
7. UMKC 201
8. ORU 216
*Perfect scoring a meet is tough: the team has to take the first five places to achieve a score of 15. Last time that was done at the Summit League XC Championships? SDSU, 2019.
St. Thomas made its first appearane in a Summit Championship with a second-place team finish. St. Thomas runners finished 4, 8, 9, 10, 15, 18 and 19 (ran 6).
St. Thomas, coming out of the D3 MIAC, makes an impressive opening statement. I don't want to take anything away from St. Thomas but it makes the other teams in the Summit League look a little weak this year.
