McCook senior a natural jumper

It's probably appropriate that McCook Central's Lora Shearer is headed for South Dakota State next season.
After all, she jumps almost as effortlessly and as often as the school's Jackrabbit mascot.
In her sixth season of track (she started jumping as a seventh-grader), she has qualified for nine jumping events at the state high school meet - and she's just getting started with her senior year.
Last season, she took third in the high jump (her specialty) and fourth in the triple jump at the Class A state meet. Since then, she hasn't let up, scoring impressive performances so far this spring, including a pair of high jump victories at invitationals last week.
Last Thursday, in cold and windy conditions at the West Central Invitational, she won the high jump, triple jump and long jump with ease, and then ran the lead leg of the 800-meter relay to give her a fourth victory.
"She's just a natural athlete - her frame is perfect for the jumps," said her coach Jack Rasmussen. "She is very flexible, very conscientious and is a real competitor."
It's just lately that she's added running to her repertoire. . . . (read more)
