Re: Summit League Chapionships on Midco TV

It was a very good track meet when one takes into account the terrible weather. Some outstanding performances (a few would be outstanding in perfect weather). I had the pleasure of working at the meet Friday and Saturday and it was a lot of fun watching top-notch athletes up close.

Re: Summit League Chapionships on Midco TV

Interesting comments from coach DeHaven and TV. Lets get a field house built!

A few extra items to wrap up the Summit League outdoor track and field meet that was held over the weekend at Sanford Health Sports Complex:

The Oral Roberts men finished fourth, but not for lack of star power. Three meet records were broken despite crummy conditions with the Golden Eagles accounting for all of them. Jack Whitt went 5.5 meters in the pole vault to break the mark he set last year, Fredrick Brown triple jumped 16.23 meters to shatter a standard set in 1990 and Marvin Bonde went 20.65 in the 200-meter dash to best a time set in 1999. Bonde also won the 100. Not bad for his first meet of the season.

The most impressive thing about NDSU senior Whitney Carlson winning the heptathlon, long jump, 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles: She won her final event in that progession - the 400 hurdles - by almost 3 seconds.

The event had a very local feel. On the women's side, South Dakota high school grads accounted for 125 of the 740 individual points that were awarded with five first-place finishes. South Dakotans accounted for 181.5 points on the men's side with four individual championships.

Next year's event will be hosted by North Dakota State and held on campus. The Bison generally host no more than one dual per season due to weather.

SDSU had its best collective finish since joining the league, finishing second in the men's standings and third in the women's. This men's team was as good as any the Jacks have had in 25 years - the last time they won an outdoor conference crown - yet finished second by quite a ways to rival North Dakota State.
Is it possible that the program is maxed out for the moment due to a lack of facilities in comparison to other regionals teams?
"Absolutely," Jacks coach and alum Rod DeHaven said. "You can't compete with schools without facilities - you're not going to get kids. We've developed a lot of these kids and had good timing with the right academic majors, that kind of stuff. It's a good group and it'll take us a bit to duplicate it again."

Does anyone know what happened to Anna Gagliano, hurdler from Rapid City. She competed during the indoor season, but isn't on the roster anymore. I am guessing she transferred?

She competed in one indoor meet during the first semester then transferred to SDSMT.

Would be proper to attribute all of the above to Terry Vandrovec and his blog.

I was thinking the same thing after reading the TV blog for Monday. He does mention TV in the opening line, but he could be talking about television for all we know. Terry was right on in his comments btw.
