  • Stanford & Arizona State Meets

The track and field teams opened up the season by sending athletes to Stanford and Arizona State. The Stanford Invitational is notorious for producing some of the fastest distance times in the country.

Mike Krsnak, Junior from Rapid City, finished 8th place in his section of the 10K Friday night at the Stanford Invitational. He ran a time of 29:40.87. It is a personal best for him by about 22 seconds. The time ranks 3rd all-time at SDSU and is one spot behind his coach, Rod DeHaven (29:39.67). Mike went through the 5k at about 14:40.

Throwers and Jumpers competed down in Arizona. Here is a link to the gojacks.com story through which you can access results from either meet. Throwers competed Friday for the most part and jumpers will mostly compete today down in Arizona.

Very impressive time for Krsnak. I checked with KarmaKid: #1 on the SDSU all-time list is Dan Carlson.

Carlson and DeHaven...Krsnak is in very good company.

Carlson's time is 29:34. Krsnak isn't far off the school record.

        Other notable performances this weekend:
-Arran Davis (Jr, Winona, MN) threw the 3rd farthest Javelin ever at SDSU.
-Sam McInerney (Sr, Elk Point-Jefferson) who is the current school record holder in that event placed right behind him. They are currently 1-2 in the Summit League.
-Jared Vlastuin (Jr, Lennox) jumped 24'4.25" while his PR is 2nd AT at SDSU 24'5". This jump puts him atop the Summit League. His HJ performance also puts him in a tie for 2nd in the Conference.
-Ben Jasinski (Sr, Rapid City) jumped 49'9". This is a good season opener and puts him atop the Summit League. He would like to best his PR of 51'3".
-Sean Burns (Sr, Rapid City) sits atop the Summit in both Shot Put and Discus Throws.

Perhaps the best event at SDSU T+F right now, the Hammer Throw, didn't go well this weekend. This was mainly due to lack of outdoor practicing so far in Brookings. They hope to get out more often as the weather warms and snow melts.

As noted, Krsnak's performance was pretty good. Another thing to note is that this is his outdoor opener in March! Last year he ran the same race three weeks further into the season with better weather and ran 30:02. Another important figure is 29:46. This is the time it took to make the NCAA West Regional last season.

Thanks for all the info, you two! Really appreciate the updates on the meets and the time/distance comparisons. Looking forward to a great season and to the conference meet in Sioux Falls this year!
