    Re: Work at the Erv

It's all about the money. If the money comes in, it'll get done. Otherwise we are stuck with a half finished product.

Exactly and right now the money is no where to be found

        Re: Work at the Erv

I know there was a post that indicated some baseball alumni were dischanted with the program. Is this attitude so wide spread that significant dollars can't be raised from former players in our long baseball history? Seem to be having similiar problems with the Dykhouse Center.

          Re: Work at the Erv

I heard that Mr. Sells is very proactive in fundraising. He planned to spend his first 2 months on the road with the guys from developement beating the bushes and meeting donors so lets hope that attitude will pay off in the near future. As for being disenchanted with the baseball program, it's time to get over it. Fred is gone, we have a bright new AD, Coach and a team that finished second in its first league tournament. How awesome would it be to have a facility available so that we could bid on the Summit League Baseball Tourney?

I am sure some of the old alumni were really hurt when the old Erv went away. Only natural and I am sure that makes it pretty easy to say no to fund raising as well? But for all the good memories the old Erv provided it was not a great field. The playing surface at the new facility is absolutely terrific - thanks for Bernie and crew.

The eye soar dirt pile is gone

Work behind home plate will continue - including grass seeding this fall

The fence around the old tennis courts will soon be put up to inclose the field from the west road

If I heard correctly they may also move the batting cages from the 1st base side to the 3rd base side between the road and the left field?

No new batters eye for another year. Trying to figure out just what to put up so its stays up.

Thanks for the update chains. All sounds good until you got to no batters eye. There has to be something suitable for our windy climate as we aren't the only field with that problem. Also, have you heard anything about putting a pad on the back stop to slow the bounce back on passed balls? A wild pitch or passed ball should never be an advantage for the defense but with the block wall it becomes just that.

I really hope the padding gets added as well, I don't think it would be that difficult to do

                  Re: Work at the Erv

My favorite babysitter (dirt pile) is gone. The field looks great, but there is still alot of work that needs to be done. I will ask former players again to consider a gift to the New Erv Heuther Field. Just a reminder - Many of us (scholarships, meals, etc.........) benefitted from someone in the past donating to the baseball program. Now it's our time to step to the plate. Go Rabbits!

Stopped by the Erv yesterday on my way to the Dairy Building. There are an additional 12 loads (+/-) of gravel dumped between the 3rd base dugout and the road. Looks like more fill for the area behind the backstop.

The field really looks great, it has been well taken care of this summer!

The gravel should be spread in the very near future with some type of permanent platform on the west side to house the game day crew - radio, sports information etc.

Also, they are exploring some type of rubber spray to put on the back stop vs the bricks we have today. The rubber surface would prevent pass balls and wild pitch's from bouncing back to the catcher.

The posts for the batters eye will be removed. Coach feels the team hit the ball just fine last year without it.
