Having followed the down and then up season of the Jackrabbits, I would like to recognize the seniors for their contributions and leadership during this springboard season for the Jacks baseball program.
Caleb Thielbar- quiet record breaking left-hander that led by example and hard work. Could easily be the best athlete on the team and deserves a shot at the next level.
Tony Martin- his gymnastics training served him well as a catcher. Best defensive catcher in the league and no one can pack more energy in a 5'7" frame. Consistently hit for power and average (tied with Joel Blake for most hits in a season-80). Has tryouts for the pro level, wish him the best!
Stephen Turner- provided clutch hitting down the stretch run of the league schedule and was a good defensive first baseman. Will miss the "Steeeve" coming from the dugout next year.
Jesse Ayala- the quiet gentleman second baseman who won his postion back midway thru the season. His hitting and defense was a catalyst for the end of the season success.
Isaac Johnson- provided quality starts and wins in the second half of the season. Gave ORU all they could handle in the league championship game.
Kirby Morsching- an arm injury sidelined him mid season, which hurt the pitching staff. BUT he may have had more to do with the mid season turn about than anyone on the team. He was the emotional heart and soul of this very young team. He has an infectious smile and wit that kept the team loose and together at some difficult times.
And finally Kevin Morsching's spiritual presence was evident by all the #16 T-shirts worn by the seniors and parents.
Good luck to all the seniors. You have represented SDSU well and we will miss you next year.
