Info on the regional tourneys:

First, from the NCAA website, the story on the regional tourney selection. Our first opponent, Oregon, is one of eight top seeds.

From the story: "Each of the 16 regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals are scheduled to be conducted May 31-June 3 (if necessary). Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced at 11 p.m. ET June 3. The 67th Men’s College World Series begins June 15 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Neb."

All 16 regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, May 31 to Monday,June 3. Our game against Oregon will be Friday, May 31, on ESPN3...checking on the time.

The four teams in our regional are: #1 Oregon (45-14); #2 Rice (41-17); #3 San Francisco (34-22); and #4 South Dakota State (35-22).

jackdaniel noted in the "Tourney" thread that Terry V is tweeting the game will be at 8:00 p.m. Friday on ESPN3. Is it a fair assumption that's Central Time?

Analysis of the Ducks from Baseball American:

• Oregon as a national seed, however, just doesn’t make sense. The Ducks played five series against NCAA tournament teams, and they lost all five. They played a very strong nonconference schedule, but still they are just 6-10 against the top 50. North Carolina State, on the other hand, is 18-10 against the top 50, and Indiana is 10-9 against the top 50. Those three teams, along with Florida State, were the finalists for the last two national seeds, Farrell said.


“I think that there were some committee members who were impressed with Oregon’s nonconference schedule and that they went on the road, particularly late in the season, and played at Ohio State,” Farrell said. “They had the nonconference series with Vanderbilt as well this year. So I think that the committee probably was impressed with their effort to step up their nonconference schedule.”


Apparently, going 1-2 against every regional team you play is good enough to get you a national seed, as long as you played a tough schedule. That shouldn’t be good enough; national seeds are supposed to be elite, not just very good. Oregon had a very good season, finishing second in the Pac-12 and ninth in the RPI. The Ducks deserved to host—but they did not prove they are good enough to win series against quality teams, so how can they be a national seed?

Seems like we always get the top seeds, well I guess we have to pay our dues.

I kind of think we're fortunate in some respect drawing right in the middle (8/16) of the regional top seeds.We do have to play #1 in the regional being the regional #4 seed(I assume) ,but we play 8th nationaly ranked team and not one through seven nationaly ranked teams.Of course,there are 9-16 regions where the # 4 seeds play easier 1st rd games.Right in the middle isn't too bad,but #2 seed Rice is a pretty good team also,and #3 San Francisco could be worse.Anything can happen in baseball,and i like the way we're pitching at this time.

Oregon baseball is relatively "new"....well, at least in the modern era.

Oregon fielded its first baseball team in 1876 and sponsored baseball through 1981. In 1982, baseball was reduced to a club sport at Oregon. In 2007, the Ducks announced they were going to once again have D1 baseball starting in 2009. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Ducks_baseball

Every thing considered, we probably have a pretty good draw. Lets show our best stuff.

Football, Men's basketball, women's basketball and equestrian have all gone to their respective national tournaments this season.

Not a bad year to be a Jackrabbit.

BROOKINGS — In the first game of their first appearance in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament, South Dakota State will take on the Quack Attack. That sounded just fine to them when unveiled Monday.

Gathered at Cubby’s in downtown, players and coaches rose from their chairs and shouted with excitement when South Dakota State popped up on ESPNU, revealed opposite Oregon.
The response had little to do with the opponent (the Ducks are the No. 8 overall seed) or the location (Eugene, Ore.). Rather, the Jackrabbits (35-22) were just thrilled to be included in the 64-team, double-elimination bracket. . . . (read more)

Health issues dog UO but, like OSU, the Ducks don’t have to leave home to reach College World Series

Before Oregon can start its preparation for South Dakota State and a 6 p.m. Friday game in the NCAA tournament at PK Park, the Ducks will be trying to heal up from a slew of recent ailments.

“My biggest concern about my ball club is getting healthy,” UO coach George Horton said Monday in the wake of the NCAA field being announced. “We’ve got a lot of dings (but) I’m assuming we’re going to be close to 100 percent this weekend.”

The Ducks played their final regular-season game on Sunday at Utah without three regulars in the lineup: first baseman Ryon Healy (back), left fielder Brett Thomas (wrist) and right fielder Scott Heineman (back).

Horton suggested that Oregon’s most valuable person might turn out to be athletic trainer Tom Embree, “if they’re all playing (this weekend) … it’ll be nice to get those kids back.” . . . (read more)

All and all I think the draw is good. I was expecting Baton Rouge, Nashville, etc...... I'll take their chances on a trip to Eugene. Score early and have Layne on his game and you never know. It should be fun to watch.
