Re: Coaching confusion.
Verm was recruited by SDSU for scholarship out of high school, followed his GF to DSU, then was an unscholarship walk-on. And Fisher was Reggies cousin, he was coming here no matter what. But not the point, It is not that I am throwing him under the bus because they have started slowly, I thought the hire was highly questionable when it happened. So atleast we can agree my skepticism goes farther back than the terrible start. The current team has a lot of potential, just too many free bases. I think Schrage is doing a great job, Oakes, same thing, Hood same thing, but the hire of Grunzke does not makes sense. An older assistant coach does not relate to the players that SDSU needs. Sawyer and Joel Blake both came here for a reason, they were shown a good time and could relate to the coaching staff, otherwise, Sawyer had offers at Oregon State and other D1's, You have to be able to relate to a coach to want to play for him, and unless you are a dynasty in college baseball, high school kids do not relate to older coaches.
But so we are clear, I do think that Schrage is a great guy and a great hire, just wish we would stick to whats working and get a guy who can recruit out of the midwest like Reggie and Ritchie did...
