  • New Rules for the upcoming Season

Was watching the video of Coach Price at Winter Media day and he mentioned a couple new rules for the upcoming season. The link to the NCAA release.

They are looking to enforce the 20 second pitch clock better and to make all non-televised games have a 90 second rule for in between innings.

He also mentioned a change in the bat rules, but I have not found a link to that as of yet.

After watching the first weekend of the Jackrabbit World Series last weekend I would say that if the NCAA's objective with changing the bats was to diminish run production in college baseball they likely have achieved their goal. The bats do not have the pop that we've all become accustomed to with aluminum bats. They actually sound and perform far more like a wood bat than aluminum. The Jacks are going to have to learn to play small ball and our lack of team speed is not condusive to that type of game so it could be interesting. Here is the memo that the NCAA sent to the bat manufacturers. It gives the basics of the changes.

BROOKINGS - Ping is once again a term exclusive to golf as the NCAA has changed the rules regarding metal baseball bats.

Effective this season, the sticks sound, feel and react differently than they did over the past decade. In technical terms, they have to meet standards for ball-bat coefficient of restitution (BBCOR) instead of ball exit ratio speed (BERS). Basically, it makes them more like wood bats.

Needless to say, it's been an adjustment for South Dakota State, a team built on the three-run homer - the Jackrabbits' offensive numbers are down. However, their pitching stats have improved and their record is in line with last year. The defending conference co-champs lead the Summit League by two games over Oral Roberts and by 2.5 over North Dakota State heading into a four-game set with the rival Bison (16-21, 10-5) that begins today at Erv Huether Field . . .
