  • IUPUI placed on probation for major infractions

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA says it has found major infractions involving all 14 sports at IUPUI. (Argus Leader)

The NCAA said Tuesday that IUPUI allowed erroneous eligibility certification for 97 student-athletes from the 2003-04 through 2006-07 years, demonstrating a lack of institutional control and a failure to monitor by the university.

A former academic adviser was cited for unethical conduct for his refusal to cooperate with the NCAA during its investigation.

The school, which is Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, will receive three years probation and lose some scholarships. It will also vacate a number of wins,

including 18 victories by the men’s basketball team in 2003-04; 14 wins by the women’s basketball team in 2006-07; and 40 victories by the volleyball team from 2004-06.

If I understand the report correctly, it should not have any effect on post season elgibility. It will just be a reduction in scholarships, and more oversight will be required by the University.

This was no suprise, as IUPUI noted that this was taking place quite some time ago.

So, did we pick up some road wins?

Not so sure about road wins, but the report reflects what SDSU and USD have to contend with in terms of academic certification. Seems like no one at D2 had to have a declared major or working towards a degree. This cerification process makes recruiting more selective in terms of student athlete. Its not just about athleticism anymore.

Wow, six new faces coming on to the IUPUI women's roster for the 2010-2011 season. That is called an overhaul, right? One of the new players was "considering" some bigtime schools. It didn't say "considering offers", just considering. Could mean she received a few letters from those schools I guess.

And if you sent in an application, Harvard considered you also. Might not have been for very long, but they would have.
