  • Oakland at the NCAAs

Any predictions on Oakland's seed? Unfortunately for them a lot of the #1 seeds in the conference tournaments have been winning their tournaments, so the likelihood of their seed getting better for that reason is not good. NDSU was a #14 last year if I remember right. I'm going to guess it's one better than that due to their 17-1 in conference, long win streak, and non-conference schedule.

Listening to an ESPN analyst who was asked who can pull an upset. He said he likes a lot of mid-majors chances to pull upsets because a lot of the #1 seeds are winning their tournaments and also look at the team's non-conference, even if they didn't win the non-conference games against the tough foes. Plus he likes it if they have formidable big men. He did not specifically say Oakland, but it has the Grizzlies written all over it.

On one other note speaking of Grizzlies, ugh. The Montana Grizzlies 2009-2010 deal with the devil continues. They trailed 40-20 at half of their conference title game against Weber State at Weber on Wednesday and came back and won.

I think they are a 13 seed, hopefully they can get Wisconsin or a team like Villanova that doesn't really have a great big man.

Well Oakland did get a 13 seed and will play Pitt. I was watching one of many NCAA pre-selection shows yesterday and they mentioned that Pitt is primed for an upset. Not sure why, maybe an injury or something. If that is the case then this should be a good match-up.

Does anyone know anything about Pitt? I just hope Oakland can advance.

Not quite, they have the 14th seed against #3 Pitt. The Houston upset may have bumped them.

Can't believe Ohio got a 14th. They were two below Kent St. in the standings. Oakland is a few notches above them.

Oakland v. Pittsburgh, Bradley Center, Milwaukee, 1:55 pm CDT Friday, 3/19.

Sounds like a classic NFL playoff game, doesn't it?

Kampe wasn't thrilled about Pitt when Fox 2 Detroit interviewed him.

I think Pitt will handle Oakland, I hope not but I suspect they will.

Pitt's not exactly mowing people down at an incredible rate, however, they still play in the "throw the gloves off and throw down" Big East.

I agree that this does unfortunately appear to be an unfavorable matchup for Oakland. Pitt's a tough rebounding, hard-nosed team. I think Oakland needed someone a little more suave to smell upset. Someone they could pound on the boards. However, Pitt is young with their big hitters leaving for the NBA last year and I think most of their starters are not tournament seasoned.

I would think Oakland could pull a decent crowd to Milwaukee. May be one other slight edge.

I'd like to see Oakland pull off the upset, but then, Oakland has trouble handling even SDSU's level of physical play, so it could get ugly, I'm afraid. Nelson will probably need to continue his unconscious performance vs. IUPUI against the Panthers, Benson will need to put in an NBA-quality performance, and Jones will need to be pretty much perfect at the point on offense and on defense for the Grizzlies to have a chance.

Can they do it? Yeah. But lots of things will need to go right for them and wrong for Pitt.
